I have had this done about 20 times. Mine is done in the hospital as an outpatient. A doctor gets it started and it is finished up by a nurse. They do an ultrasound first to locate the best place to drain the fluid from. Mine is always drained with a tube directly into a large container, which holds about 1000 cc’s. If I really have a lot, a second one is used.. Usually it is about 800-900 cc’s when done every 3 weeks. If you have much more than that, you will start to have breathing problems.
@mynursekel79584 ай бұрын
Yours is done correctly to limit outside contamination and to keep it a closed sterile system. This way done was not wise/sterile and everytime he squirted that syringe he let air and splash back get on cath and inside that tube. From tip and inside from where hand is. Very sad to see anyone do a procedure utilizing this for lung and that volume. One and only that first suction was sterile….

Lung.are.in the back,,heart in front
@jeanneparisot2374 ай бұрын
Not really the back. Your organs are protected by a thin layer of membrane, which separate them from each others. The ones around your lungs is called the "pleura". Inside it, like everywhere in your body, you have a little bit of fluid. It keep your organs hydrated and act like the oil in an engine : Keeping it smooth, and allow them to slide one on another without abrasion. The lymphatic system is responsible for draining fluids to the kidneys. But sometimes fluid builds up. Between the lungs and the pleura, this is called a pleural effusion. The fluid that builds up prevents the lungs from working properly, and it can cause pain and difficulty breathing. Fluid buildup in the pleura can be caused by blunt trauma, disease, or infection. When there is too much fluid, it must be drained manually. Fluid buildup can occur anywhere in the body. Around the heart, this is called a "tamponnade", and in the abdomen, it is called "ascites".
