You can really hear the Brahms' influence here, especially in the main theme of the first piece. Also in the left-hand patterns in the second one.

I hear more Tchaikovsky influence than anything else in the first one.

It's a shame Horowitz never recorded this. He would've given 11:50 - 12:40 the explosive passion that it deserves but that I've never heard executed quite the right way. Sama's is too clean, precise, restrained.

It's very beautifull, but still it's the only Medtner's opus that didn't really astonished me, but it's kinda because of the Sama's interpretation, which is brilliant and delicate, but in my humble opinion, it's a little too reserved and not enough powerfull, plus he didn't really connect the different passages.
