I was just going to say that. Why my doctor was more concern with my weight gain than with my gbs positive test? And that was after googling what it is. It does say that the chances of baby getting in are 1%

Thanks for this advice you really helped me when my midwives didn't want to test me. I insisted and tested myself. They sent the specimen to the lab and I was positive for strep B. I had to have penicillin iv during labour. THANK 😊 YOU for educating me.

Fantastic to see this video, raising much needed awareness of group B Strep and, particularly, how most of these horrible infections can be prevented. Sadly in the UK, we're still not routinely testing pregnant women for GBS - we're so behind so many other western countries. Group B Strep Support has recently launched a report at a GBS Awareness Event held at the House of Commons. If you'd like to see the presentation, you can view via our channel or on our website gbss.org.uk

My Dr. tested me at 8wks, I tested positive and was given antibiotics. She also said since I tested positive they will need to start a antibiotic IV before I deliver.

Your doctor probably tested your urine. GBS in the urine should be treated both when it is discovered and before delivery.

What if my water breaks and I don't have time to have the antibiotics? Is a c-section any safer, when it comes to women who have had a positive strep b test? Thanks!

Something that I never see discussed is the fact that the mother can have group B strep and it can go systemic. It happened to me. I was 29 weeks with my second child in 1984 and developed a fever of 102. I went into labor and had to have an emergency c-section. She was very sick and was taken to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. They determined she already had group B strep advanced enough that she contracted it long before birth. She lived only 18 hours and 42 minutes. During my next pregnancy my doctor did not see the need to test early, but I insisted because of my previous pregnancy. I was on several courses of antibiotics until birth. It scares me that women are not told this. It can happen.

:( they tested me only a week before my induction . Shouldn’t I have been on antibiotics before before the baby ?! I’m worried .

Katerina G if you test positive, they give you antibiotics via IV DURING labor. That's all.

Tina Silva Hi, I know you've given birth by now. I'm currently 34 weeks and I'm experiencing that same problem, I went to the hospital and the nurse advised to stop working and that bedrest would be best at this point, and my feet and hands are extremely swollen. What did your doctor say? And did you deliver early?

I'm allergic to 8 antibiotics. I really hope they can find a antibiotic that will work if I'm group B positive
