Hey ladies and gents!
As y’all know, I have a lot of feelings lol
And from time to time, I share commentary about societal issues I feel
strongly about. Recently, social media has been debating whether
Meek Mill’s album cover is appropriate enough to be paraded around for
the general public.
(on the side of a public transportation bus)
These are my thoughts.
If you wish to see the cover, google it.
I did not want risk copyright strike.
Thanks for watching!
Let me know if you agree, disagree, or if you have additional observations.

Also, notice how he got the help of a Black woman to draw the painting. Black women can be very treacherous to one another. No girl code at all. And until Black women collectively start to advocate for themselves this is going to continue to happen. Remember when Ashley Judd attempted to call out the misogyny in rap music? Tipper Gore? C. Delores Tucker? What happened? Black women told these women who wanted to help us to sit down and shut up. No one is going to feel the need to help Black women if we shun correction and refinement. There isn’t enough Black women collectively outraged at this. The vast majority are still going to purchase the album and mindlessly dance to their image being degraded.

Yes! I almost feel like they used Nina as a "scapegoat". They purposely got a woman to do the art just so that they could use the excuse that a woman created it and supported it. They knew they could never get away with a man drawing that. And I always hated that Ashley let twitter bully her into apologizing. They were able to pull the "racism" card against Ashley, and it got to her. And that is why we as black women hold ALL THE POWER. They can't pull the racism card on us. If we want things to change, we have to do it ourselves.

And allow me to add that I don't believe that exposure in explicit rap videos is positive exposure, in general. I just wanted to point out the gross hypocrisy.

The same transportation line that carriers this image, is the very same transportation line where a woman was publically sexually assaulted and none of the other passengers called 911.

The baby crying in the background at 1:00 expresses all of our sentiments! Make it stop! The illustration portrays black men as consummate victims of their circumstances & it’s sad that they remain emotionally stunted by refusing to take responsibility for their participation in the dehumanization of black people.

Rappers going to continue doing what they do and women will support it. How can things change for better 🤔.. But as long as rappers, entertainers are the face of the community, this conversation won't ever change

I agree! I hate that we somehow elevated them as the "face" of the black community. Another young man I follow pointed out that black people made a huge mistake when we elevated the "negative aspect" of our community and put them on a pedestal.

Lol, love the honesty with not editing out the outtakes. I can't say "World War Three" to save my life. 😆 Your take on this was well thought out and expressed. I totally agree that there is a lack of accountability in the greater black community. I, as you, am tired of seeing black women exploited for profit and also feel that black women have to stop degrading themselves for profit as well. Thank you for speaking out on this important issue. Glad to see you back, missed your videos! God bless. 🌻

The truly sad part about this entire thing is that meek mill sought out a black female artist for this album design. In the city of Philadelphia(I believe thats where hes from)it's on the city buses. We must do better, we cant expect other cultures to respect us we we so blatantly and easily disrespect ourselves.😢😢 like you said not just him but so many other artist as well. We cant get mad at meek will when we support Nicki and Cardi yet their lyrics and videos are just as ratchet. Perversion and lewdness has no boundaries

I agree! The only reason I'm not too hard on the women is because I'm considering their ages. When they were children, they were already hearing and seeing males degrade their image in media. So they're sort of copying the men, and doing what the men taught them to do.

While I agree that they grew up with that trash around them, it doesn't justify then perpetuating it. It's a sad day when the top black female artists are constantly nude grinding on the floor and booty clapping every song.

Although, I do believe that white supremacy has and still does negatively impact our community, or lack there of, I also strongly believe that WE need to start taking more accountability for our actions and how we present ourselves to the rest of the world both black men AND black women.

As an artist and a black woman im super sick of rappers portrayal of black women being harlots, bed wenchers and 3rd of a human being. I feel that there isn’t much community amongst black people and total disregards for injustice against black women. Mysoginoir is very real in certain parts of the world. I still believe there are wonderful black men who don’t support these puppets rhetorics

Sadly, we are fighting a losing battle when it comes to the degradation of African American women. There are many factors contributing to the phenomenon. Who is at fault? The rapper, the artist, white and black society (as a whole), the media, the internet? I personally feel everyone played a part. Since slavery, black women have been perceived as insignificant and least important. Only then, that was the perception of the Caucasian race. Unfortunately, today we are used and abused by our own men. White society do not need to mistreat us, they “sowed the seed” and now we mistreat ourselves. It is useless to point the finger at one rapper and one artist. Everyone played a part in this mindset, whether we admit to it or not. However, it is unfortunate they ignorantly believe they did nothing wrong. We live in a world where it’s acceptable to “step” on persons, usually weaker individuals, for a quick buck. It’s disguised as the “American way”. The artist and the rapper knew they would get away with using dark skinned women, which history has shown, perceived as insignificant and least important. Even to themselves. Black girls and women have become accustomed to that type of treatment. For example, I remember in the 80’s when I first heard rappers calling us b****** and w***** in their music. I was a teenager but noticed it didn’t take long for everyone to accept that as normal. Remember the bus boycott, by the civil rights movement, for positive change? Why didn’t black society come together by refusing to buy that type of music? That would have stopped that type of defamation of African American women. We couldn’t come together because too many of us believe what the rest of the world think of us. How can this change? We must go back to the basics. Black fathers raising their children (not a few, most); loving and protecting their daughters and teaching their sons to be men; daughters will grow up with a perceived self-worth; and sons that grow up to love and respect their women. That’s it.

I don't follow Meek Mills and I am not familiar with his work, nonetheless I have heard other artists over the years. Although the lyrics can be awful it is still not the music that is degrading black women. For at least the last 60 years black women have been degrading themselves. Not all, but the vast majority are mean, which translate to multi-faceted behavior expressed in their home, to business to within their inner circle of association (its not only relegated to sensuality). Sorry the ownership is an implosion that continually goes ignored.

I can't take your comment seriously - because you conveniently skipped over the 100s of male rappers who were degrading women 20 years before Megan the Stallion was born. I've noticed that blk men have NO PROBLEM calling out women. But you're afraid to call out men. You're scared to hold MEN accountable.
