We went to the Isabel Bader yesterday evening to listen to the Branford Marsalis Quartet who gave a fantastic performance with great energy. It was sheer delight. I was amused to see one lady who knitted during the whole show and wanted to ask her what she was knitting!

Really I love it when people do that when I'm playing, I'm sure at least some of them feel the same, it shows people like it.

they commend me playing that jewel. so there´s a lot of respect. sound ´n feeling is what really matters in music. dressing is for designers, hollywood etc.. let´s regard respect in true music is not about how musician looks like, but how he makes his job.

These guys had been playing together a lot when this recorded and you can hear it. I'm sure that with their talent level, they could have met the night of this concert and done well. But the way Eric and Justin are so "with" Joey during his solo on the first tune, it's really not a solo. Same when Branford takes it back. And man, Steinway guys were having a good day when they made that piano.

It's always a joy to hear soprano. Curious - Whats the sax set-up of Branford these days.

Currently, Branford Marsalis is using a Yamaha Custom Z Soprano (YSS 82Z), Selmer S80 D and Vandorem reeds, that in this video, but their set up that does not change much.

Right. You're playing music for other people. That means all people of all demographics, of every race and creed, every financial situation and every hardship. So in a way, he's dressing the most properly because he's realizing his audience should be all people, not just jazz cats or high-brow European Music appreciators. Jazz music didn't start in an auditorium. So why should we dress it up like it's history is somehow so stoic?

Yeah, but not just randomly in the middle. There's common sense about when to do it. It annoys the shit out of me.
