Another update: It is October 2015, and I've been hanging on with cancer since 2009. But a recent test shows that the cancer has outwitted the miracle drug. It has regrown in a dangerous place in the liver, and spread to the abdomen. I will start my 8th chemo probably next week. I hope I get another 2 years but I am not counting on anything. I have been so lucky to get extra time - I saw the graduation I wanted, I saw my first grandchild born; my stepdaughter's gorgeous baby who brings me such joy. So who can complain that cancer is coming back when they got everything they asked for? I am very grateful for the extrra time I had. My oldest son is getting married in May and my youngest began his sophomore year at Caltech. Of course, I want to see the wedding, I want to see the graduation. After that, I'll want to see my son as a father, my grandchild, my genetics carried on. But all of those things - unlikely. I take it one day at a time. Your continued thoughts and prayers mean the world.

Omg...I don't know how I'm here but maybe 'cuz God want it... when I saw your video,my mom came to my mind and I couldn't stop my tears...She passed away 7 months ago. Firstly,doctors said she would live between 2 weeks or 1 month,but they were not right about diagnostic....she lived long time with colon cancer...5 years!! Isn't a miracle? She was a brave and thankful woman from life like you. I wish I could hug you and give you my best wishes and blessings but I'm from Chile :( God bless you and never lose your faith,even when things are not going well,fight until the end... Our Lord is able for miracles....enjoy your life with your lovely family, friends and don't stop helping people. Your work is a treasure. You are in my prayers since now.

Hey all. As of June 23 I'm still alive and kicking though feeling sick. . :). I had a PET scan yesterday, won't get the result for a week. The one I had 7 months ago showed cancer spreading all through the abdomen, lungs and lymph system through the chest. The Scan after that showed the chemo had kicked the disease away. They say I'm an "exceptional responder So who know what this new one will say? Not me. I'm used to pain. I can't tell any more. I can only say that I'll manage no matter what they scans say. I'm ready and at peace. Yes, I'll do more chemo as its not a huge drag in me. But I think I'll know when the time comes to stop. Seven years is a very long time to live on chemo and it's exhausting. Imagine thinking its you last year-- for five years. Even you would get bored! Again, I am thankful people are asking. Thank you. *Hugs*. Node T Wednesday I will know more.

Thank you for sharing.. What kind of breast cancer do you have?
@MetsterAnn8 жыл бұрын
I have HER2+ ER+/PR- metastatic breast cancer. It initially spread to my liver, later throughout my abdomen, chest and into my lungs. The reason I'm still alive is I've been right on the cusp of new treatments for HER2+. I got Perjeta the month it was approved, and it worked for over a year. When cancer exploded through my system again, I went on Kadcyla, which again controlled it. I hear there is a new one in trials too, so when Kadcyla stops working, there may be something else to try. I've been very, very lucky that there are these new drugs that weren't out when I was diagnosed, and that my body has responded to them. I'm the reason you do treatment as long as you can, hoping for a breakthrough. I got not one, but two breakthroughs! So lucky. But let me say, it hasn't been easy. I've been doing chemotherapy for years now, and I'm very tired and sick. But it's better than the alternative. :)

Ann and her husband are raising two wonderful young men. I think we all know, or know of, people with more favourable "odds" who nonetheless feel quite sorry for themselves. When in reality? No one knows how much time they'll be gifted in this life. I look back to a photo taken when I was 29 years old; I'm laughing with 2 friends who, unbeknownst to them at the time, would not live much longer; by age 40, one would succumb to breast cancer, while the other would perish in an accident. It's a cliche, but it really is key to live each day in a way that lets us appreciate the wonder of the world, and of our life within it.

Hi Ann! First, you're remarkable, and your courage inspires me, but I want you to know one thing. I know how this sounds, but I swear it's the truth. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when I was 20 (I'm now 48). When I was 21, during one of my many month long hospitalizations, my colon (aka large bowel) ruptured. By the time they rushed me to the OR, I was already dead, for two minutes to be exact. But, within those 2 minutes, time stood still as I was suddenly standing in front of my grandfather who passed when I was only 8. We embraced for what felt like an eternity. He looked me in the eyes, and told me it was not yet my time, and that I had to go back. I had been in so much agony I was curled into the fetal position, screaming in pain, for weeks. No amount of drugs could stop the pain. I did NOT want to go back, because the pain was suddenly gone. In fact, I never felt better, but, I was ripped away, falling backwards, and when I opened my eyes, I was in the ICU. they'd also found two pea sized malignant tumours growing on the outside of my bowel they had no idea were even there. After six months of chemo, radiation, and three more surgeries, my head began to clear...and I finally realized that I had gone to heaven. It took me a while to accept it, but it now gives me incredible strength and hope. I now know death isn't an ending, but just a transition to the next stage of life. I'm telling you this because you said you didn't want to miss your sons graduation, and wanted to see your other son become a dad. Well, weather or not you die, you'll get to see both, I swear in my soul, you will. Death gets a bad rap, but it's become a part of my life as I almost died twice more since then. I've gas 23 GI surgeries and 8 other ones, and I know I could pass at any time, or I could live to be 90. None of us knows what the future holds, so I've, like you've, lived each day as though it were my last, with the knowledge that even if I pass, I'll still be able to see those I love. Knowing this brings me so much comfort, and I pray it does you as well. Sending prayers and well wishes to you and your beautiful family ❤

Thank you. I haven't commented on many posts but I appreciate them all. Especially the ones where somebody realizes their mom is important in their lives. It's easy to forget that somebody who has always been there, won't always be there. All good moms deserve a hug. :)

What a shining star you are Ann! How hard it most be to be leaving this world when your sons are in that age of life of such challenge and change into adulthood. Your kids and husband seem so mature, loving and supportive. Ann you did good girl ;)

In 2014, after receiving a PET scan and obviously expecting the worse, her condition went from terminal to NED (no evidence of disease. Yes, her cancer not only stopped growing, it completely disappeared. As of early 2021, new growths have appeared in her lungs and she posted that she is going to take a break from Chemo. Check her out on Facebook and if you can, say a prayer for her and her family.

No matter what happens to me, I will ALWAYS be proud of my children. It doesn't matter if they see me at the end. It is the lifetime that counts, not the final moments.

So impressed by Ann and her family. Lovely, smart, kind people. I have a friend who has been stage 4 for as long as I've know her, since 2007. She got on a clinical trial and is living her life, and able to live mostly like anyone. It may have been the experimental drug that was approved, like Ann's. SO happy this helps Ann. I had cancer, I'm 12 years recovered, plan to stay that way !!! All the best to Ann and her loved ones, this video has helped people, so thanks.
