Anna Sinkevich joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2020 under the Indigenous Fellowship Program. A member of the Evenki people from Siberia, Anna has been an active participant in the youth movement of indigenous peoples with a particular interest in the protection of indigenous communities’ traditional knowledge and the preservation of indigenous languages.
As part of WIPO’s Traditional Knowledge Division, Anna works on intellectual-property-related issues that are relevant to indigenous peoples, including the Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC), outreach to indigenous peoples and local communities, and engagement with UN initiatives on indigenous issues.
Although far from home, she remains connected with her community and to her roots through making traditional handicrafts, playing the mouth harp, and further advocating for indigenous peoples and local communities around the world.
“The Indigenous Fellowship provides a chance for indigenous peoples to have a voice inside the organization. It was really for me the moment when my dream became true”, Anna told us.
