When you are looking at your babies face all the time then you look at your other child they look HUGE and you soon learn that the elder child is no longer the baby you thought they were. I must say I gasped when Jackson grabbed at Calvins face, I hope he gets used to having a little brother much sooner than later. Seeing you as a family of 4 made my heart smile. I am SO happy for you all.

I nursed my son for 15mo, he weaned himself the month I got pregnant, and this time around (my daughter is 4mo) things were still difficult for 2-3 weeks. Hang in there, I promise you it is 10000% worth it! Never quit on a bad day!

Ellie, I totally understand the breast feeding pain problems. I used to SCREAM and cry when I nursed my first newborn daughter. It was TORTURE! Keep applying lanolin. It will totally help soothe the soreness. But don't give up, because it is so worth the work and effort!!

Ellie, I just had to comment in hopes that you see it and in case it could help. I have had six children and I have only successfully nursed one - my last one, now 14 months old. We just stopped last month. Believe me when I tell you that I believe that whatever way a mama feeds her baby is the right way! But I truly wanted to nurse this last baby of mine. I used lanolin cream religiously, before I would feed her, right after I would feed her and even in between. It helped tremendously. I was still sore for two weeks, but I never cracked or bled (like some people do) and it was manageable. Anyhow, maybe you already know about this stuff, maybe you are already using it, but just I case, it is a wonderful thing!!!! I wish you and your sweet family every single good thing. Oh, also, when it was hard, those first few days in the beginning and she wasn't gaining weight, and I wondered if I should just stop nursing, I would tell myself that I didn't have to decide today, that for today I could nurse and that I could decide tomorrow. I truly think that got me through as well! Hope that is helpful, or in the least please know that I am thinking about you and praying for you!

Ellie I had trouble latching my baby and had an oversupply and my LC recommended block feeding. It changed my world! BF had been very difficult and painful until I tried it and we never looked back. The first LC I saw wasn't helpful and just gave me latching advice but the LC changed everything for us. X

I went through the same pain breastfeeding my son, he has a small mouth and it was rough. Now I've been nursing him 8 months and the pain has completely gone away. The first three months are the toughest for breastfeeding but after that it got so much easier- you definitely are on the right track!

I remember when first I exclusively breastfed my son for about a week, my nipples ended up hurting so bad that they cracked and bled. Its a new adjusting process for both of you guys. The lanolin cream worked wonders to help alleviate the pain. Wish you both the best of luck!

Ellie just get through these first 2 to 3 weeks of breastfeeding.. I promise you will just wake up one day and it will stop being painful and you'll be so glad you stuck through the pain. I had the exact same experience. Also.. put those Medela pads in years freezer and put them on as soon as your done for some nice relief. They were the only things that worked for me! So happy for you guys!! I've been following your journey for over a year.

Nothing really helped but a few people said stick it out for 6 weeks and it will be worlds better and right around then it was! I realize you have lots and lots of comments to go through, so not quite sure if you'll actually see this, but I just wanted to offer my support as a fellow breastfeeding mama! Like Ellie, every time I'd feed my daughter I bawled. It hurt like crazy, and I became really discouraged by everyone telling me I had to be doing it wrong because it shouldn't hurt. I went to multiple lactation consultants and just kept practicing and bearing through the pain. After about six weeks, the pain was completely gone. I still have no idea why it hurt so badly. I was told she latched on well, the hold was good, everything... So I think it honestly has to do with pain tolerance as well. There's no way of saying it shouldn't hurt ANYONE, because everyone has a different feeling of what hurts and what doesn't. I've now been breastfeeding for going on 20 months, and I'm so happy I stuck with it!

I just watched the video of Jackson being born! It's funny because everything happened in this pregnancy at Walmart. Like finding out that Calvin was going to be born. And then she went into labor at Walmart. In the beginning of the video of Jacksons birth the doctor says "and that's what is going to be like when your water breaks in Walmart" I find it really amazing yet funny that the pregnancies have a lot to do with Walmart! Just to give you a little encouragement about breastfeeding. When I had my son it was awful breastfeeding. I was miserable, in so much pain. I honestly didn't think I could do it, but here we are 2 1/2 years later and going strong! Good luck ellie!

My little girl destroyed me nursing, I had a hard time for the first few months but most of it was probably because she had an undiagnosed lip tie. Mostly just wanted to encourage you! You're not alone, you were designed to do it and you will get past the difficult part. You're a wonderful mommy Ellie either way!

I had so much pain in the beginning nursing my little boy. :( I feel for you, it's so painful! Stick with it and in a few weeks it will get better! It started getting easier around four weeks and now he's 2 months old and I actually really enjoy nursing him. He's learning too and it'll get easier! ! Ellie I promise if you stick it out through the pain in 4-6 weeks it's amazing! My daughter was great at feeding but had a very small mouth and the pain was horrible but next thing you know it just goes away, we are three months in and it feels like nothing!

I'm a midwife :) Take ibuprofen or tylenol to help with your afterbirth pains. Take them a bit before your feeds so it will kick in before the feed as it stimulates uterine contractions which is what hurts. I know how you feel! You can also make a rice sock to keep on your lower tummy.

Just keep sticking it out with the breastfeeding! I had the same issue with Revelynne. She latched right on, but she had a very shallow latch and it was searing pain after only 3 feeds. I also had an over-sensitivity issue. I had to pump exclusively for 2 weeks - and the pumping actually helped with the sensitivity. Then she thankfully still latched right back on after two weeks, and we have been breastfeeding successfully now and she is 5 months. Coconut oil was my best friend in the beginning :)

Ellie the same thing happened to me just five weeks ago when I had my baby (on your birthday!!) and I would start to get scared when I thought she was waking up for a feed because it hurt so much, but everything is fine now and I am loving being a mum. The first days of breastfeeding were so painful for me, I bit my lip and curled my toes from the pain every time she latched on. My daughter swallowed blood and spat it up too, so for a couple of days I expressed to let myself heal, but I don't recommend anything like that until you've seen the lactation specialist. And the after birth 'contractions' while feeding were a killer!! You're doing amazing Ellie!!

Definitely See a Lactation Consultant!! I had so much pain with my now 8 week old and we tried EVERYTHING!! (Physical therapy, chiropractors, massage therapy) we ultimately got his tongue tie released at 5 weeks and I wish we had done it sooner! It was a complete different and almost instant relief!

I had the same issues with nursing. If you can stick through it and suck up the first few weeks, you can do it!!!! (If you want to ;). I watched HOW TO LATCH A BABY video and the video helped more than anything!! Use lanolin after each feeding, and take warm water, put it on a washcloth and "soften" your nipples before a feeding ;). My son is three weeks old (my third that I've breastfed) and it's just now painless!

I remember those intense emotions when I was reunited with my oldest who was 2 after we had come home from the hospital with our newest little one. Very intense emotions. I cried just seeing her. I cried because I was torn between the two of them. I cried because she looked soooo big compared to baby sister! I cried because I didn't know how I could love another child or how I could divide my time among them. But it all worked out within the first week or so! It was just hard for my mind to picture it! Congrats!

With my oldest I got soooo sore and cracked, bleeding. I wanted to cry at every feeding it hurt so badly. The only thing that got me through it was lanolin!! I would slather it on every few minutes! Even with feeding I would put on a little first (its not toxic for them) . I would also just feed on one side at each feeding, so that way my other side could "rest" and heal more. I hope it gets easier for you! It took me about 2 weeks to heal up, stay strong momma!

I can so well remember the feeling of the first child being HUGE when the second one arrives. When I was in the hospital after giving birth to my son my mother and father in law came to visit with my then 19 month old daughter and she was enourmous!! It was so funny to me how your perspective changes! Calvin is beautiful and good job Ellie!! You are a wonderful mother!

Ellie keep pressing forward in breastfeeding Cavin! You can do it! My daughter was born in March and she had a bad tongue tie and until we got it corrected she was unable to latch right. I didn't want to use the nipple shield, In fact I thought I was failing doing so, but I did use it for 2.5 weeks so I could heal. Lean on Good for strength and Encouragement it will be well worth it!! I promise!

Hang in there Ellie! I had the worst nipple pain when I first started breastfeeding even though my son had a great latch. I even though I might have had thrush because of the amount of pain I was in but in the end it was just the sensitivity of my nipples. They eventually 'toughened' up around 8 weeks and I was able to nurse pain free. I would cry everytime I nursed.....coconut oil and lanolin were my best friends! My son is now a year old and still nursing while I'm 17 weeks pregnant with #2 and the sensitivity is back but not as bad!
