Kim literally means gold. Chinese character 金 Jin, pronounced geum in Korean, but not when used as surname. for family name, it is pronounced ghim, but usually transliterated as Kim.

Glad she is finally getting some recognition outside of just snowboard fans. She has been killing it for years now! Only reason she did take the world by storm in Sochi was because she was too young. Incredible athlete that is going to change women snowboarding drastically

Much Dutch That engineering perspective created one of the most amazing and dominant displays of athletic achievement. Very similar to how Tiger Wood’s father used his military perspective to create the most dominant golfer. It takes an outside perspective to create an outstanding athlete.

I’m so excited for her. Definitely a lot of natural talent and a dad who fostered it to boot. I like her personality too. None of that hokey fake bro’d out personality that snowboarders tend to adopt. (I can say that, I’ve been riding/involved with the sport for about 18 years now.) Really really happy for her.
@sunshaped
@sunshaped 6 жыл бұрын
As someone who has been involved with the sport for so long, would you say she's really doing stuff no one else is doing? Or do you think there are actually women out there doing more impressive stuff on the halfpipe? There has been this small group of commentators on these recent Olympics videos of hers claiming that Chloe's not really that great and is overrated, and that there are tons of people doing more advanced tricks regularly. I'm trying to gauge how BS their comments are...
@SD-ir1vf
@SD-ir1vf 6 жыл бұрын
Chloe Kim got 98.25 and she also got a perfect 100 score one of only 3 people to do it. If there were really better out there why don’t we see them at xgames and the Olympic. If you you do a trick and land sideways you score less.
@sunshaped
@sunshaped 6 жыл бұрын
SD5 The claim by those commentators is that the Olympics and X Games are for amateur competitors and that there are pros somewhere doing more impressive stuff, and other people maybe doing stuff in competitions besides the Olympics and X Games and not competing in these two more well-known competitions. I think they're just like a bunch of people who know each other (or are even the same person) who've decided to wind people up on those videos. I could almost begin to believe them if they're talking about some supposed group of elite pros somewhere (but why wouldn't the supposedly advanced tricks be talked about?), but when they claim that there are teenage girls doing better stuff than Chloe, I think their comments really fall apart, or there are just awesome snowboarders somewhere doing their own thing and not getting involved in major competitions for some reason. I actually think Chloe's score seems too high-- sure, her back-to-back 1080s are something to talk about it, but the rest of the run was super tame. A high score at or near 100 should reflect a more complete challenging run, in my opinion. Like Shawn White gets a 100 or close to that by doing pretty much amazing tricks all the way through.

I love the irony of how a Korean American is representing the United States in Korea. I'm sure her family and friends on both sides of the Pacific are so proud of her. She's going to be a star for a long time.

KC Luu What’s the irony? I’m not sure you know that word means. “Irony” does not equal “something interesting.”
@kcluu9390
@kcluu9390 6 жыл бұрын
There are many forms of irony. Irony means that it's different from what's expected. And I don't use bad term of the word but the amusing form of it since it fits in both a Korean and American perspective.

Well good for her. She can go visit her grandmother with her new gold medal. She didn’t say but I suspect she has other relatives that live there too. Her first Olympics in the place where her parents were born and risesd. I’m sure it was extra special for her.

I really wish I had the burning compassion she had for snowboarding. Working hard from the age of 4 and continuing to follow the path to her dream of being in the Olympics, has now been achieved. Especially the dream to earn the gold medal for her father is something amazing and I constantly wish for her success. Chloe Kim is a person that I strive to be, hardworking and continuing to better herself in many ways.
