My heart broke Dr proctor when one of your patients passed away after a huge swelling on her leg. she became sepsis and we all know what that means. She died. I felt so bad for her and her family. She did everything right but still died. God Bless he. You were so PROUD of her Dr Proctor.

Now, I had actually been working hard at losing weight, all to no avail. Finally, a couple of years ago, my doctor's office ordered some bloodwork, and the results of the blood tests showed severe hypothyroidism. I was immediately prescribed medication, and the dosage is being adjusted as needed. For years, my GP kept telling me to just eat healthier and exercise more, even though I was already very good about doing both of those things. I honestly feel badly for those people on shows like, "1000 lb Sisters, "1000 lb Best Friends," "My 600 lb Life," and, "Too Large," when doctors tell them they need to work harder at losing weight, as that was what my GP had been telling me for years.

Ahhh, Dr Proctor finished his training here in Greenville SC, where I've been living for 28 years after moving from NY, where I was born and raised. I used to think that Greenville, SC was just a small country town- BUT so many people seem to have some sort of history here!

I love that you focus on the patient after care. You many feel that bariatric surgery cures all & gives them license to eat what they want. And if they don't address why they eat & how they use food they will not be success. Thanks for making it real

I am 61 and 380 pounds. When i was 26 had gastric bypass and at 31 it had to be reversed. Over the years i have gained weight back. I had my family doctor ask local barac. Dr. Locally, in my insurance network, to do me a sleeve. That was abou 7 years ago. She said none would even see me because i had last one reversed in 1991. That one was bypass. Is it possible for someone at my age that has had one reversed to get a sleeve. I have high blood pressure that is usually around 119/78 as i am on med. I have no diabetes or heart disease. Last checked for both in the last year, angela h

Weight loss surgery is a great option for diabetic patients. If this is something you are open to, we recommend you explore bariatric surgery.

If you're 220 lb you should have no problem losing weight and you don't necessarily need weight loss surgery

Eating disorders are a dangerous condition that must be taken seriously. We hope you and your daughter are able to get the treatment needed to overcome this condition and begin to have a healthy relationship with food.

Lovely guy but I’m confused by the ‘it’s not your fault’ part.
@msbigdog14603 жыл бұрын
Same here. Yes it is their fault, no one is shoving food down their throat, surgery is only a tool in the weight loss journey. They first have to learn how to eat right and make healthy food choices. If they worked on that first and foremost they could very possibly avoid this surgery. Sadly we are living in a world where people are blaming everyone and everything, instead of themselves, for their poor choices.

It depends on their body mass index. We do bariatric surgery on patients with a BMI of 35 or greater although some surgeons and insurance will cover the surgery if you BMI is 30 or greater with weight related medical conditions.

I wish you would've been my doctor when I had my surgery back in 2010. I think it's the worst thing I ever did I've had nothing but problems I traded four different health problems for 4 new health problems and I wish I could change it I would love to have my stomach back but I can't so anybody thinking about doing the surgery please think twice.
@bariatriccenters3 жыл бұрын
Hi Janette, we are sorry to hear that! Unfortunately, some patients can experience negative side effects from WLS. Have you followed up with a reputable bariatric surgeon (one that is a part of a Center of Excellence program) to talk about ways they might be able to help? Depending on the type of procedure you had, a revision may be an option

@@bariatriccenters I had gastric bypass in March 2010 and I've had three hernias and I have an iron disorder where I have to have infusions and some other things and I go once a year for bloodwork and I am here in Oregon so I go to Oregon health sciences university and I do go for my regular follow ups but it's been a struggle thank you so much for your reply after all that I have been through I wouldn't recommend this to anybody and I wish I knew all that was ahead of me before I chose this surgery.
