In my personal opinion, SPL makes incredible gear! It will and always be on my list of purchases in this lifetime along with their PQ and Gemini. I hope one day I get the opportunity($) to acquire all three. I like how their 120v technology has that oomph character but maintains that super clean transparent sound, depth, and separation; not to mention the silky smooth top end. Mannn! What makes this compressor stand out to me personally is the tube bias switch and rectifier controls that just turns it into a jack of all trades. It truly is remarkable how it maintains simple controls, but still achieves many different flavors to the point I was blown away by how versatile it is across different genres. Then when I heard it being used in Paul's studio from Audio Animals I knew this would be my starter Swiss Army compressor. It checked everything off my list and the price; while still a dream for me, is still something I hope to one day check off my list. It would be my first real mastering piece of hardware. When that time comes I just hope it will still be supported and available to attain as you can never go wrong with having SPL hardware in your chain.

Yep, the highest possible audio quality requires the highest possible audio operating voltage and this 120V technology achieves exceptional technical specifications and sonic benefits I can only dream about for now… Years ago I fell in love with the vintage Vitalizer SX 2 my friend had in his home studio, it just made everything sound better and since then I'm an SPL fan! 👩‍🎤

Hi! Together with a friend from university, we recently founded Duality Studio in a small town in Poland. We both studied sound engineering, and starting our own studio has always been a dream of ours. Over the past five years, we’ve gained tremendous experience and knowledge under the guidance of some of the top professionals in the Polish audio industry. However, our budget for high-end equipment is very limited. This incredible compressor would become the heart of our studio, breathing new life into our productions. We are very familiar with SPL plugins like the SPL Big and Transient Designer and know they are products of the highest quality. We also use the SPL Pre One preamp. We’ve made the most out of this equipment, but having this compressor would take our mastering to an entirely new level! Dear SPL team, thank you for this opportunity! My first piece of SPL gear was the 8 channel Charisma. I was new in the recording arts and brought my Charisma while working at the epic Pachyderm Studios. I ran all my synths and programmed drums through it and everyone at Pachyderm was blown away! Even with the vast inventory of gear at pachyderm no one had ever heard what the Charisma could do! In fact I gifted it to the head engineer for going above and beyond duty on my record. Now I’ve evolved into mastering records with my own hybrid set up and the SPL mastering compressor would be a dream come true for me! The iron 3 is simply a dream❤. I saw this compressor for the first time in my teacher's mastering studio and it was love at first sight. My best friend and band mate of the past 20 years is an amazing engineer/producer (as well as a killer drummer). He spends hours a day obsessively tinkering with all of his analog studio gear and sometimes I’m just amazed that he knows how all of it works. Since we were kids he’s always had a good ear. He cut his teeth working in professional studios where he would sneak our band in at night to record and use the good stuff for our demos and EPs. Now he is building a studio of his own. I know that if he had this it would be put to good use everyday. He showed me this video and told me how amazing it would be to win this thing. In my small studio, my first SPL piece was the SPL Phonitor 2 preamp. I loved the effortless authority and control that this lends to the sound. I suspect it has to do with the 120v rails, but however it happens, I love it. I later added the SPL Crossover, to drive my monitor speakers and pass the bass to the subwoofers. Far superior to the average subwoofer implementation, in my opinion. Early on in my journey I realized that the quality of the original recording was the biggest factor in a quality end result. I then realized that the right equipment in the final chain can elevate excellent recordings to spectacular. Plugins are fine, but the hardware really has something special going on. Lusting after the SPL Iron.... :)

I use SPL plugins all the time. PQ and Paseq take turns on my mixbus and I also love the Iron compressor on buses. Other must have-tools for me are the transient designer plus and dual-band de-esser. Hello guys, my name is Manny, an aspiring artist. I’m close to my 40’s and been playing music since I was 11. División Bell (Floyd) was the album that really put music on the map for me, the only problem is that I have been living in Nicaragua where the chances of making something through music are slim to none. I decided around 4 years ago to take matters into my own hands, unfortunately fate would have Nicaragua fall into a civil war and halting the recording process and my band. Being in a couple of bands and having put out 4 singles in a 3rd world country is no easy task. As a result It’s hard to come by equipment and money for it, although I have purchased a couple of analogue gear it’s never been easy shipping it out (Nicaragua = $hipping). Thanks to the political asylum my wife was granted I am now in the US and determined to put my own studio together to release music. This SPL would be a great addition. I would love to mention that I do plan on eventually having my own studio in Nicaragua, as soon as politics are not an obstacle somewhere in a hopeful future. Transparent compression, with a huge open sound. In fact the spl iron plugin has become my go to in my vocal chain as of lately, adding depth and thickness to my lead vocals. Having the real deal would be a dream come true. I love my spl transient designer plugins, and love going into studio that have a 4 channel hardware one it always gets used. I’ve been using spl plugins for sooo long! The iron has lived on my master bus and I really don’t use anything else as a compressor. It would be an incredible blessing to have the real thing in my studio! Absolutely surreal to wake up everyday and walk in my studio and sit down and see the iron in the racks. After having had a chance to work on it and listen to it, I was left with a hole in my brain that unfortunately I cannot fill because of my financial means. I tried a lot of high end hardware but only he really stuck in my ears, and the ease with which I pulled out the sound I was looking for. It would really be a dream, I have several spl hardware, preamps and processors and each of these has contributed to me becoming a fanboy of the brand seeing it as the iron of reliable and breed. As a producer, singer, rapper and sound designer I use the SPL Iron plugin on nearly every mix! I find it to be essential for any side chain I use as well as gluing my mix bus together to create a warm cohesive sound. Currently, I am working on a sample pack from sounds that I collected working at the Barefoot Sound warehouse in repairs. Sounds like parts malfunctioning, all kinds of production sounds and DSP’s being programmed. I can see myself joyfully using SPL Iron to create vast and deep soundscapes combined with my KTBK filter to give something valuable to my listeners and the people who purchase the sample pack.
