I have so many mushrooms growing on my property. This video came out just when I found an orange mushroom with gills. Went out and got it to Id as you were pointing things out. It was jack o lantern, once again spot on description to help Id,

Thanks Dina! My family and I found a cluster of these attractive-looking mushrooms last week and grabbed a few. Then we tried to ID them, and it was a toss up for us between Lobster and Jack O'Lantern. We ended up letting them sit in the back of our fridge for a few days, and then tossed them out. Your ID tips were very clear, and it is now clear that they were Jack O'Lanterns. We're glad that we didn't, "Munch on a Hunch"!

I just found your channel this year (but I've had your book Earthly Bodies and Heavenly Hair for over 20 years, love it!), and I love how you're helping keep people safe by identifying not just the good things to eat, but also what to avoid. I found a mushroom in my yard that looks like a bread roll. I think it's a puffball, but I would love to see you do a video on those! I won't eat til I'm 100% sure.

Are shanterels (sp?) the same as golden oyster mushrooms?

Thanks, not the same. Here is the golden oyster video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmXPeqFqe9WnjKs and more on the chanterelle: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqCzepqtqtd2fqs

@@DinaFalconi It was a Facebook mushroom group. I don't recall which one. It involved lots of well I don't want to be too gross but the movie the Exorcist comes to mind.

I have eaten them before (cooked in oil), the whole cluster, but they didn't make me sick, they enlightened me! At first I felt as though my ears got filled with air, then the colors started getting distorted, then I felt energy, as though I drunk lots of coffee, I was sweating even though it was in mid November when I found the colony and the weather was already chilly. I was pondering about life, getting philosophical, thinking of myself in third person, I felt connected with nature, one with mother earth. This sensation and psychedelic effects lasted for 5 hours. Then as it wore out, I felt very thirsty, my mouth and throat felt parched as though I have been smoking pot and got a bad case of cottonmouth. Also, it made me gassy, I was belching and farting often. But it was totally worth it! I felt more in tune with nature then the psylocybe cubensis white mushrooms.

Hello Cernismirt, thanks for your comment. Interesting, many folks I know have had bad reactions, and even hospitalization for eating Jack O'Lantern. Glad you fared better and thanks for sharing, although, for anyone reading this, I don't encourage eating this mushroom.
