Animals can't be defined as good or bad. They just behave. Like most mammals hyenas can develop emotional bonds. Specially being a pack animal and one with a strict hierarchy. They're social and smart, thus curious and friendly with their pairs.

Jaws is a female spotted hyena. At least I think she's a female. Female spotted hyenas have what's called a pseudo penis which makes giving birth difficult. Female spotted hyenas are larger and more aggressive than the males. A spotted hyena pack is matriarchal meaning the leader of the pack is a female. As soon as female spotted hyenas can open their eyes and move around they start play fighting with their litter mates. A female spotted hyena is in a way partially hermaphroditic cuz they have female reproductive organs and a penis, but no testicles. Which means they can't reproduce themselves like how worms can

Hyenas are wonderful predators and scavengers. Their Jaw Strength is I guess 1100 PSI to 2000 PSI. Can crush bones through their Carnassials I believe. What a beauty!

I assume you have to be extra careful around these animals, even with all of your training and the time you've spent with them, and probably can't waltz into their enclosures just whenever, but it's amazing how similar they can be to domestic animals when their needs are met. Hyenas are closer to mongooses than anything.

They're on the cat side of the carnivora, though closer to civets and mongoose. They look canine simply because they fill a similar niche to canids and converged on that body plan because it's what works best in that niche. They also evolved for that niche in Eurasia and Africa because canids hadn't come from North America yet (where they originally evolved), so that niche was empty at the time. And when canids did arrive in AfroEurasia, most hyenas went extinct, except for the bone crushing ones like the spotted hyena, because the bone crushing dogs had already gone extinct in North America without ever making it over (though some bone crushing hyenas did make it to North America, but they eventually died out there because they were bigger than the spotted hyena and when the big prey died out, so did they), and the aardwolf survived the arrival of canids by starting to eat bugs, instead.

They making the laughing noise when excited or nervous. They make a squealing and like a type of groan when they greet each other. And the loud whoop noise theybuse to communicate over some distance. It's one of my favorite sounds. Lol! They do not bark. They're not related to dogs at all. They are closer in relation to the cats than they are to dogs. They are closest related to mongoose and civets. Lol.

The guy that had him told my dad he was part dog. I had to inform him when I was older that Hyenas can't breed with dogs. Haha!

@carolyncarnahan960 This was back in the early-mid 90s. He probably bought the cub off someone that told him it was half dog, just trying to get the Hyena off their hands. He lived up the road from us in a neighborhood in Tallahassee, FL. He ended up getting rid of the Hyena once it got too big for him to handle and started whooping and disturbing neighbors. But no, there isn't anything a Spotted Hyena can cross breed with. They're in their own family, the Hyaenidae. Nothing can cross breed with it that hasn't already gone extinct.
