I think we're often unaware of the amount of impact we can have on our family, community, etc. Changing our own lifestyle is great, but then we sometimes feel hopeless and lonely. We can also get involved in local projects (revegetation project, collective compost, repair café, etc.), be proactive at work (ask for reusable tableware and selective sorting, selecting eco-responsible suppliers, etc.). It can even be as simple as carpooling or "bartering" with a colleague/neighbour, and it's a great way to start discussing about those issues and find new solutions. It really feels good and it's much more rewarding than just doing things alone.

Sarahlenea yes please, more of this! Cooking a meal with friends saves all the energy we would use from cooking alone. Planting gardens where the work is shared is so much more heartening than gardening alone.

While individual changes, especially value changes, are certainly important for the mindset we need for a healthy evolution of our society to be more sustainable, I do want to caution on the hyper individualization of solutions. Let's not forget that the concept of recycling plastic bottles was pushed by the soda companies so they could use cheap fossil fuel-based plastics onto the consumers and then make the consumers think it was THEIR FAULT for not recycling. Instead, every company should have to ensure their products are made to the highest durability and re-useability standards, and if not, also able to be biodegradable. Of course that doesn't happen in capitalism, because capitalism is all about maximizing profit, exploiting people and nature and trying to infinitely grow business which ultimately keeps a small percentage of owners very, very rich and everybody else middle class to poor. Ridiculous system. So, what we need along with individual habit changes is a shared community strategy to shift AWAY from wasteful practices and make those healthier choices actually worthwhile. That could be done by joining the One Small Town movement with Michael Tellinger. See his channel and website for much more. If you want to be part of a community that builds sustainable abundance of basic essentials and creates prosperity through collaboration, co-operation and co-ownership then you can! It is completely voluntary! But highly rewarding for those who join.

Lucy is so authentic and her enthusiasm is inspiring. She is young and mentioned the thrill she will have when she lives to see the time of Drawdown. I'm old so I'm thrilled that in the update to Drawdown, they have been able to "speed it up" if we do it now.... 2040! Let's do it!

Let's do it together with a strategy, One Small Step and One Small Town at a time! One Small Town strategy with Michael Tellinger is also worth a good look. A real way for each town to create abundance and prosperity through collaboration, community and co-ownership. A bridge to a healthier and sustainable society.

She looks like a politician, not an activist or intelectual. Everything she said made me think that shes afraid to tell people they have to make sacrifices. People are addicted to comfort now a days, so is very hard to say that we have to chenge our ways drastically. This "one step at a time" aproch is very convenient, but os not enough. We already lost the fight against clima change, the efforts now it to make it less intense than it could be. So we are running out time. Buying second hand clothes once in a while or making "meatless mondays" is only good for people to feel good about themselves, but its not nearly enough

What concerns some ppl are just the feel good things that would have minimal effect. I would like to know from not just climate change proponents but what do the other educated sources say. How we address climate change is really still up for grabs.

In my opinion, Thorium MSRs are a much more climate friendly solution than solar panels and wind turbines. Green power has failed in Europe and countries there are reverting away as quickly as possible. I think we could get ahead of the learning curve if we went straight to thorium nuclear power which has no chance of melting down, and produces much less waste.

Achient druids believed that burning Oak Leaves would clean the atmosphere...and up until the late 60's early 70's...in the fall ...people would rake leaves into piles...let the kids and the dog play in them.... And then 'burn them'...I wonder how this practice would affect greenhouse gases...

Unless you as a human are actively doing something to reduce your co2 then by definition you're part of the problem, carbon footprint calculators have existed for a long time so there's no excuse for not trying. Get an ebike, walk, use mass transit over a personal car, in my opinion even electric cars are a waste, using a 2 tonne vehicle to transport a ~75kg person is not economic. Now a 25-30kg ebike that can charge from sunlight or wind is the way to go. They keep you healthy too.

Part of what I like about this book is the emphasis on collective solutions. I think the current emphasis the mainstream media puts on personal carbon footprints is a way to trick us into shaming each other rather than shaming the corporations and billionaires who’s decisions determine so much of our society’s collective footprint. Personally I think its more important for me to do the work to help 10 people all reduce our footprint by 30% than it is for me to get to carbon neutral right away. Anything that brings people together keeps up our morale and builds resilience for the coming change.

Women create more Co2 and pollution than men on avg. These chicks need to tell women to stop buying makeup and taking birthcontrol which puts chemicals in the water supply, killing ecosystem services. Not to mention you dont need 3 pairs of shoes and 40 different outfits. So. Much. Waste. It's sad really. Absolute hypocrites.

This is a super rich topic and worthy of independent videos / books. Perhaps the most important aspect of female leadership / engagement is education. There is a direct relationship between education and reduced reproduction. Women who have access to education (on average) have smaller families. Smaller families = fewer resources needed = lower Carbon Footprint. This is oversimplified and exceptions abound, but on a macro level it's fundamentally true.
@Theballonist
@Theballonist 5 жыл бұрын
Ultimately we’ll get to a gender balanced leadership fastest by emphasizing the need for more women in leadership. It is a way of counteracting the centuries of conditioning telling us that women shouldn’t be seen as leaders.
