I had never heard of these birds at all, until today when I saw one in a bird store today. I didn’t know what type they were though because the owner called them some very long name and I forgot. She doesn’t know much about them either so I didn’t know what to search, but the babies were so cute today! They just melted into my hands and thanks to you I figured out what type they are!

Such a social bird, you describe things very well and I find his name so fitting as Linnies make this froglike, animated character sounds!😊

Hello Kermit 😊😍 It js kind of strange to see that is is so normal in other countries to own only one bird of a kind. Here in my country, germany, it is not allowed to own only one. You have to keep all parakeets and parrots in pairs (that does not count birds of another kind)...or better in a group. Also wing clipping is not allowed. That comes with really shy birds. So most of the budgies and other birds here will only come for food on your hand and will not let you touch them. My linnie is very hand shy and I just don't know how to change that. As soon as we will get another linnie, she will be even more shy. Great to see how good Kermit gets along 💛

Oh that's interesting, I didn't know that! I think in the UK and US the general rule is that you can keep a single bird if it is tame and you have lots of time to spend with the bird. In these cases the human companionship replaces the need for another bird. But I can understand why other places would have a different viewpoint.
@narayaniji86993 жыл бұрын
@@CuriousCreatures I'm from the USA, and lots of people here think it's abusive to the bird to have only one. They need another bird to fulfill social, emotional, and communication needs. Hopefully you can get your bird a best friend.
@CuriousCreatures3 жыл бұрын
@@narayaniji8699 'Abusive' is a rather strong term. It depends on the individual bird. Getting a hand-reared parrot a 'best friend' is not a straightforward process by any means. The parrot may not want another bird in their territory if they already see their human companion as their best friend. Hard to know, until you try. And if things go wrong, you then have to rehome the new bird. All very stressful. So while it is definitely something that I have been considering, it's not a decision to take lightly. I've actually been searching for a couple of years now, and have yet to find 'the one'. Hand-reared Linnies are not common in the UK, especially as I want to adopt rather than shop.

I understand it is more "natural" to let young birds stay with their parents and consider it a good thing to have them in pairs so that they are not lonely and have at least one of their kind! But on the other hand some of those single birds I saw seem to be very content and it is good that if they share their whole life with humans that they are used to them (and their hands😉) from an early age on. One should not be too rigid on these matters but pragmatic. Especially in Germany there seems to be a front between animal rights' activists and animal owners to the detriment of both

Sorry to hear about the passing of your bird. I am at a loss as well, for our budgie just recently passed and it’s been hard on us. He lived with our cockatiel all his life. Now our cockatiel is alone, though we give him a lot of love of course. I was curious about a lineolated parrot to put with our cockatiel. Do you think this is a bad idea? We probably will end up just not buying another bird but I was curious if they could get along with a cockatiel or not. Thanks! Kermit is so adorable!!
@CuriousCreatures4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment 💜 I think that if your cockatiel was previously housed with a budgie then he would probably be fine with a linnie, it just depends on the temperament of the linnie. I don't have any experience housing different species together, but I'd say that a linnie is no more or less likely to be aggressive than any other bird of similar size, if that makes sense. So I think it's worth a try provided you have a backup plan in case it doesn't work out.

Hi! I’ve had my bird for almost six months he’s very shy, he comes out when he’s ready, crawls around my rooms has his own space, but he won’t let me hold him or anything, I hang out with him everyday any suggestions to progress?
@CuriousCreatures3 жыл бұрын
Hello! When you say that he won't let you hold him, do you mean that he won't step up onto your hand? Linnies tend to be hand-shy, so it might be better to start off by holding a perch/stick and get him to step onto that, and gradually hold the perch at shorter lengths from your hand as he becomes more comfortable. Hopefully after a while you won't need the perch and he'll step onto your hand or arm. Use treats like millet spray, sunflower seeds and apple to coax him closer to you. I hope this helps. 🙂

@CuriousCreatures5 жыл бұрын
@@chriscraven9335 She was about 3 months old when I brought her home, and then she was with me for 3 years. Parrotlets have a natural life expectancy of 15 years, so her life was cut very short by the fungal infection, sadly.
