I don't really know the point of this comment. They are not meant to replace real pets they are meant for people who want the companionship of a pet but they don't have the time or mental capacity or even the money to take care of a real animal. There are a lot of animals who get abandoned or mistreated because the owners wanted a pet without thinking about the consequences of getting one. These robot pets are great alternatives and may in the future prevent uneccesary suffering. Also im not so sure that you can't have the same emotional connection to a robot that you can have to a real pet. Sentient AI is inevitable. We may not be there yet and it may as well take a long time still, but it will happen.

So, if they are replaced by these technologies then a time may come when we won't be able to connect emotional attachments with these pets as well and then we might increase their suffering by using them as food and clothing too. And I am sure you can't feel the same happiness as peting an animal compared to any metallic robot

But some people can't take care of one and so robots are a nice alternative to not having a pet at all. @@CollectingWorld well guess what I do have a cat and I also have a this robot and for real the robot to act like it's really alive. Sometimes I forget that it's a robot because it acts so real so I recommend getting it and it keeps my cat entertained plus with a robot. You don't have to clean up a litter and you don't have to feed them or give them water because they're a robot. So I think it's worth 500.
