So I think we have to go about a different way on communicating our point because for them being "too direct" is disrespectful, even if you have no intention to disrespect them. It’s not that he is not direct but he seems to use the approach that mama Mai is most receptive to. I am also the youngest and my siblings would think I was buttering up my parents when I would communicate with them, but I was simply approaching them in a way that they would be more receptive to what I was saying. I too, like Daniel, got privileges my older siblings didn’t get, but to be fair I was also more responsible in many respects. Thank you so much for bringing Daniel on. I’ve noticed that too but I don’t really blame her. She went through something extremely difficult at a young age and never had her mom’s support through any of it. I think that’s where her tough attitude for her mom comes from.

Literally just like my Asian family. 😂 There’s the dumb one, the smart one, the rich one, the rebel, the favorite, etc. Girls gotta jump over the moon to get the same respect as the boys who get applauded over doing their own laundry. We all blunt as hell. 😂

Sometimes were so worried about calling things out in a negative manner we forget that what we would say is "kissing ass" is really just genuinely trying to see where someone is at before approaching them about a problem... Or "just being nice to mom". I think its good to take your time with someone when they have a genuine problem..especially when it is a a family member...

Jeannie, I don't know if you're going to read this but here's the thing, this is very simple. This is not a situation of going straight to the point. This is a situation of being confrontational. Nobody likes to feel stupid or feel like they are being talked down on even if they are completely in the wrong. What your brother did was align himself with how y'alls mom was feeling so she did not feel pressured or bullied. So when she was able to be receptive to what he had to say she was able to think logically on the subject. That right there is the first chapter in How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. read that book

Thanks for sharing all your stories. I'm the oldest of six kids. I had to do everything. I had to come straight home from school to take care of my siblings. I couldn't join sports or got to any after school games, events etc... To top it off my dad was an alcoholic. He would beat my mom after drinking with his friends. He would come home and starts fights with my mom. It was Crazy! I'm glad you and your mom are speaking and have a great relationship. My mom passed in 2016 and my dad in January of this year. Enjoy your mom too the fullest. God Bless You and your family.
