I feel like Jeannie still carries some unresolved feelings toward her mom due to their rocky past which is why she has a hard time communicating with her without coming off as aggressive. Her mom saying she has a favorite doesn't help either. I think Mama mai just says that Daniel is her favorite as a defense mechanism and a way to let Jeannie know how she wished they could communicate. Or....I could be completely wrong...nevertheless, wish nothing but the best for this beautiful family...

Jeannie, I don't know if you're going to read this but here's the thing, this is very simple. This is not a situation of going straight to the point. This is a situation of being confrontational. Nobody likes to feel stupid or feel like they are being talked down on even if they are completely in the wrong. What your brother did was align himself with how y'alls mom was feeling so she did not feel pressured or bullied. So when she was able to be receptive to what he had to say she was able to think logically on the subject. That right there is the first chapter in How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. read that book

Im with Daniel 👌🏽I think that encouraging someone to realise their own faults is a good way to go especially if that persons already upset and isn't in the mind state to hear anyone else's opinion. When you are upset sometimes you can be defensive so when someone yells at you or comes at you more aggressively it makes you wanna be even more defensive instead of calmly coming towards a resolution. Idk some people are fine with being direct but others need the hypnotize🤣Your being honest while still taking the persons feelings and the situation into consideration

When Jeannie was talking about how she feels that her brother easily makes their parents proud while she doesn’t, and how she thinks it’s the ultimate form of happiness Mama Mai comes running in to tell her that jeannie makes her happy always. A mother loves all her children, no matter if she’s loud about it or not. Even if mama mai and Jeannie clash so much (they’re pretty much the same personality, of course they would fight lol) mama mai definitely feels proud of her. For sure. And she loves her deeply. In the end, she is her precious daughter. Not to mention her firstborn. That ish hits different.

I like Daniel’s approach to communicating with mama Mai.. Like Tamera says “It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it”. It’s not that he is not direct but he seems to use the approach that mama Mai is most receptive to. I am also the youngest and my siblings would think I was buttering up my parents when I would communicate with them, but I was simply approaching them in a way that they would be more receptive to what I was saying. I too, like Daniel, got privileges my older siblings didn’t get, but to be fair I was also more responsible in many respects. Thank you so much for bringing Daniel on. He is so warm, grounded, and well rounded.. A lovely young man. You are a wonderful tight knit family and always keeping it real real. Much love to you all.

I think so too. I'm not sure for everybody else but for my family it's almost blasphemous to talk back to our elders, even if they are in the wrong (I don't like this mindset either but it is what it is for now). So I think we have to go about a different way on communicating our point because for them being "too direct" is disrespectful, even if you have no intention to disrespect them. It is very frustrating because most of the time you just want to help out but they'll take it the wrong way.

Jeannie, as a daughter who also tends to butt heads with her mother, I can see where Daniel is coming from and why his approach works more. On The Real, you seem to approach others in a similar manner that Daniel does (presenting your opinions in a manner that allows others to come to their own realizations themselves) while with your mom, you perhaps don’t give her the same grace. I’m guilty of this too.😩 If you’ve read Dale Carnegie’s “How To Win Friends & Influence People” he encourages us to use Daniel’s approach. If we all sought to understand where someone else is coming from FIRST, before seeking to be understood - AND we approach people based on THEIR love language, then you’ll get a better result. It’s easier for someone to change when you lead them to come to the revelation themselves, versus telling them or commanding them to see things your way. You win more bees with honey Jeannie.🤗 You can’t change your Mom, and your brother understands this. You both love your mom and want the same end result. Just treat Mama Mai like you would treat someone else’s mom, and approach her in HER love languages (showing concern first, talking about shopping, etc.) and maybe you’ll get a better result. It’s both what you say AND how you say it.😊 That’s not manipulation, it’s WISDOM. (Now let me save this message and apply it for myself with my own Momma!😂 )
