Watson has that fanboy look on his face with that smile full of admiration/ adulation when hee sees Mycroft and especially when Mycroft compliments him for the reason behind his brothers fame. Genius brother of a genius!

And note that while both brothers are incredibly smart, the books have Mycroft as being smarter, but less inclined to use his intelligence the way Holmes does--which is shown by Mycroft gently showing Sherlock's error in saying there was only one child. Capital performance as they'd say! Capital!

Brett's dedicated performance, the panoply of other acting greats in support, the writers' adherence to the essence of the original literary masterpieces and Granada Television's production values have to make these series the definitive screen rendering of Doyle's compelling stories. One wonders why anyone would consider remaking any of the genre, especially those money-hungry sycophantic Hollywood parasites.

I cant remember it it was in the show or just the book, but a one point Sherlock admitted that Mycroft was more intelligent than he was to Watson, but thought that Mycroft wasted his talent with "parlor games" by using his talents at parties to impress others. This is why in the new series Sherlock seems to hate his brother because he believes that Mycroft is a sellout for working for the government.

I dare to say, I like the relationship they have in this depiction more than in the modern adaptations. I know siblig rivalry is more interesting than two brothers getting along well, but the way they interact here and seem to have a quiet respect for each other is more memorable than the twisted and over-the-top love/hate they seem to share in BBC Sherlock, imo (besides, a lot of times Mycroft is depicted as an asshole when in the canon he's like, the chillest man in the world xD)

You are totally wrong. The age difference between Sherlock and Mycroft is 7 years according to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Jeremy Brett was born in 1933, Charles Gray born in 1928, so in fact the two actors have only a 5 year age gap between then. Do not be deceived by the looks of an actor David.
