Hi, great stove, I wanted to find out if the firewood tank is filled after burning wood, how best to clean it. For example, I will work with a stove on firewood all day, and every time the dishes under the firewood are filled with the remains of burnt wood. Please answer, it is very important, thank you in advance
@Oonihq2 жыл бұрын
Great question! When any wood or charcoal starts to burn, there will be smoke produced until it reaches optimum temperatures. Our Karu 16 is a solid fuel oven and some ash lift off is normal! However, if you're noticing excess soot, there are a few suggestions we can offer: - Brush your grate free of debris before firing. - Add fuel gradually and make sure it is burning cleanly before cooking. If you continue to see dark smoke, it may be that your fuel is not completely dry or that too much has been added at once. It's important to have a kiln-dried hardwood that has an extremely low moisture content. - Never add too much fuel. Ensure you can always see some of the grate’s perforations when topping up. If you can’t, the airflow may be blocked. - Fully open up the vents and chimney baffle - Use the Ooni Pizza Oven Brush or a similar Oven Brush to wipe off the stone. - Soot can be wiped down the the oven is cool. Hope this helps! If you have any other questions for us, please feel free to contact our Support Team directly at support.ooni.com or reach out to us on any of our social channels (@oonihq). We're always happy to offer up some additional advice for your Karu 16!

IMHO it's nice they're coming out with a premium oven like this. I have a Koda 12, and unless I pass away before this is avilable I'll be getting a Karu 16. It looks like a killer oven. They're not going to discontinue the other ovens when this comes out. Tell me which oven's are better with this set of features? Lastly, what is clean up like using charcoal or wood, do you sweep out after each use from the front door?
@Oonihq2 жыл бұрын
Hey Tony! Great choice - you're going to love Ooni Karu 16 :) You're absolutely right in that lumpwood charcoal is the way to go! We recommend using a combination of this as well as hardwood logs (such as beech, birch, oak, hickory, mesquite, apple, or cherry). You can read more about this here: intercom.help/ooni/en/articles/6020281-what-kind-of-wood-and-charcoal-do-i-need-to-use-with-my-ooni-karu-16. As for cleanup, a simple brush with a BBQ wire brush (or the Ooni Pizza Oven Brush!) is all you need to keep your oven clean and free from soot. Wow - this is an awesome looking oven. We love our Karu 12 we got this spring. We've been perfecting our skills the last few weeks. Like the idea of the built in temp gauge, though we probably want to still use a laser temp to check stone temp... looks like it's best to cook with door closed, wonder by having the door, would we have to rotate the pizza as often... I've already got a couple of friends and coworkers on the Ooni!

@jameswilliford54783 жыл бұрын
I would think that you would still have to rotate the same, just possibly a quicker ambient temperature warm up time and heat retention with the door closed. The fuel source end of the unit will probably still char the pizza pretty fast if you don't turn quickly enough.
@michaeljemery2 жыл бұрын
I had to delete my previous reply where said I decided on the Koda 16. That was true at the time, but when I went to the store to pick one up, I walked out with a Karu 16. Looking at both side by side, the Karu 16 resonated with me in a way the Koda 16 did not. It made me want to cook with wood, with the reassurance that I could easily switch back to gas for the boring "in-a-hurry" stuff like flat breads. Overall I love my Karu 16, but there is one thing about changing back and forth between charcoal/wood and gas that bothers me... why did you make it so we need a hex tool to swap the back plates? That tool is going to get lost, or disappear when I need it. Surely some kind of wingnut or hand-tightened screws would have been a much better user experience!?

We're so glad you're enjoying your Karu 16 and appreciate your feedback! Ok, the low and slow for cooking steaks and bread and stuff's awesome. But can you easily set it for a temp around 550-600f? I want an oven I can cook NY pizzas in. As much as I love my Koda, it can be a real struggle to make any pizzas that don't cook at blistering temps. I'm curious if you could reply to this with a bit more detail about the temperature range of the gas burner.
@Oonihq3 жыл бұрын
The Ooni Karu 16 Gas Burner has increased precision thanks to the fully insulated oven body and mounted digital thermometer. The Gas Burner, and therefore temperature, can be controlled using the dial. The digital thermometer measures the ambient temperature within the oven, and cannot be 'set' specifically but our Engineers can confirm the Karu 16 Gas Burner can consistently cook at 250C (480F) for at least an hour straight when set at a lower flame. When using your Koda, you can achieve a low and slow technique for NY-style pizzas by pre-heating your oven/stone to the maximum heat, before turning the flame right down or completely off. The residual heat will so the low and slow work for you! Check this video out for more details: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6OTnHivhNqhZsU Really hope this helps, and if you'd like more assistance, please feel free to drop us a ticket over on support.ooni.com. Hey Bob. We do have a natural gas burner available for the Karu 16, and a natural gas line version of our Koda 16. 🔥

Just got my Oonie 16” today. Ordered last Friday. Sold my Pellethead POBoy. It was good but I’m looking forward to having more room to increase the size of the pies.

Looks great but you're getting too greedy. The price is insane at $800. Can't wait for the Chinese to clone this and sell it for $200.

Hi there, we are sorry to hear this! Ooni Karu 16 has been in development for over 18 months and the innovation that has gone into this is just remarkable - we are very proud of this oven. It’s refined with thicker insulation, powder coated for greater insulation and weather resistance, inbuilt digital thermometer for an accurate reading of the ambient temperature inside the oven - it is also the first oven to recognised by the AVPN. Then there’s the glass door which has been developed with ViewFlame technology. This incorporates Airwash technology, to enable cooler air coming into the oven through the vents on the door to be pressured down over the inside of the glass surface which helps to reduce the amount of soot that will stick to the glass, leaving you with a clearer view of what you are cooking for longer.

@@Oonihq At that price it should have at least 1" thick floor. The #1 complaint of the Koda 16 is inconsistent floor temp from front to back and you didn't do anything fix it.

Though designed in Scotland I believe it is made in China anyhow!

how is it possible that ooni pro 16 was so badly designed? it cannot be used with a gas burner with the closed doors, flame goes out because of the lack of airflow but the gas still keeps going inside...its a bomb...and customer service said: you can just use the oven for pizza with the pizza doors...dont use the closed doors...not good from ooni at all

Hi there! Our Ooni Pro Gas Burner has been designed with a safety device known as an FSD, or Flame Safety Device. This typically prevents any buildup of gas within your unit if your thermocouple detects that your oven isn't hot enough. Above all else, we always want to ensure you're not just making great pizza but are comfortable doing so. Our Pro Gas Burner has been designed for use without a door as a safety precaution, but we would be happy to discuss your particular problem with you further on any of our social channels (@oonihq). We hope to hear from you!

@@Oonihq list of problems i have sent to ooni customer support: 1) if i close the back hatch and the front doors the flame in the gas burner switches off yet the gas is being released in the oven. This is very dangerous. Is there a way i can use the gas burner without keeping one of the openings opened to reduce the waste of energy? 2) the gas consumption is huge, is there a way to add thermal insulation to the oven to keep the consumption lower (also linked to question 1) ? 3) is there a way to have the front doors (the doors with the thermometer) fixed in place with a hinge or something similar? 4) the stainless steel sheet is warped above the burner, does that effect the oven in any way? I usually slowly heat the oven so that the stones do not crack and that means once i place something into the oven for baking the oven is hot, if i then close the doors with thermostat the flames go out. Based on your answer the thermocouple will not detect that the oven is cold and it will continue to leak the gas into the oven. I did not see on. ooni website the statement that ooni pro 16 cannot be used with the closed doors and gas burner more to the point it states on your website: Extra large cooking area for 16inch pizzas, roast mets, fresh bread and more. How exactly do i make a bread in the oven using a gas burner if i cannot close the doors? I will consume one 9 kg bottle of gas per loaf of bread
