BBC Africa went to meet Kenyan manga artist Shin and find out what it takes to make it as a manga creator.

i really appreciate any black person who tries to do manga, that takes heart, it really does, to use a method of drawing that you are told not to do and then coalesce that into a style that can be uniquely yourself and uniquely african is good, that takes awhile as im doing it myself and can finally make my drawings my way but hopes he wont be judged for doing it, im cheering for you man, make your african manga style perfect :) its already good.

Oh my goodness, picture and animation is my son's profession. Very good at it. These people are geniuses. I wanted him to be a scientist, doctor or anything to do with science but he surprised me to choose to do art. His teacher told me when he was about 8 years old and I never thought anything of it until after he finished senior high school and I just reflected on that woman what she told me. Teachers they can be good at building a child or can destroy them

I'm an African American artist and my Dream is to make an anime series out of my own 2 projects. I've always been a story writer, and I'm a big fan of My Hero Academia and the Dragon Ball Series I would draw 10 times a day. When it comes to drawling anime and manga everyone has their own creativity and talents. Before i became an artist I didn't know how to draw to begin with as a kid. but I had to learn from watching videos. I enjoy creating characters it would help me brainstorm a little. It's good to learn how to draw but remember keep your ideas to yourself and practice learning the basics.
