Wow! It's just amazing how a country so small like Singapore (like not in any degrading way, but as a fact) can do so much in their limited spaces. I mean, farming is the last thing I'd imagine to be occuring on that island.

I was born in Singapore. I remember the small farms that grew fresh vegetables, fish caught from ponds, local poultry and the plentiful fruits like jackfruits, rambutans, durians, mangosteens, bananas, tapioca, yam, coco yams, etc. There was an elderly lady, our landlady who grew vegetables using the animal waste from the pigs she reared, human urine collected in large pots and even human sewage. The sewage collection system in thre 1950s-60s, in Singapore was primitive. Human wastage was collected from open toilets and taken for disposal by groups of men. I think most of the sewage ended up in farms or were dumped into the jungle swamps that abounded then. Singapore was an overgrown village with a bit of urban places in spots. Now most of the farm land had been turned into parks or left to become jungle. Urban development must stop some where. Singapore should not become one big concrete jungle with steel trees! And that is where urban farms can help grow at least 50% of the food that Singapore needs, right on its own soil. Good work.

There's hardly any open space left on the whole island. Sad...
