In 1903, a man named Harry Wolhuter was traveling on a familiar path between watering holes in South Africa. Harry was on horseback with a dog following when he was attached by 2 hungry lions! The story is a pulse pounding tale of the will to survive, while keeping your wits about you in the most dire situation imaginable…to avoid being eaten alive! As the name of the knife may give away, Harry survived the encounter by using his knife to fight back on the lion posing the immediate risk to his life… but the story of what happened from the moment of attack to the end is astonishing. We covered it in this video. It's an amazing story of surviving an attack from a wild predator.
After Dirk Loots, himself a South African, told the story to the other members of Pop’s Knife Supply… they wanted to make their own versions of the famous knife from the story. The result is an amazing display of how 4 makers can take the same design, but when their individual style is applied, it becomes uniquely their own. Since it was a group project, we thought we would offer it up as a collection first… in hopes that a collector would want to keep the knives together as a set. It’s a sure bet they’ll have a really cool story to tell about the knives when showing them to friends… in addition to having knives made by 4 renowned knife makers in their collection!

I'm sure the tree is much larger now... but I'm curious, if that happened to you right then, would you have been able to get up that same tree and fend them off?

Always love this story and the Boer pronunciation isn't great, but much love from SA 😅

As a country boy from the American South, that only speaks one language, I'll take that as an absolute compliment! But unlike my butchered pronunciation of "Boer"... I hope we at least did the story justice. It was partially told to me by one of your fellow countrymen, a knife maker named Dirk Loots.

I like the flat ground one as opposed to the hollow grind.

They really were! Just made differently back then. His grandson apparently chased a Lion away with just a camera. Check that story out too!
