I had a Doberman female named Sheba. Very aloof. Plenty attitude. They can be a handful but VERY easy to train, but you have to consistent. It's scary how smart Dobies are. Here's what I can tell you, NEVER lose your ALPHA status with her. Make sure she knows you are the boss at all times. That puppy/teething stage is challenging, but once she's trained, she's gonna be the best pet.

I’ve owned several dobermans. I have a 135lb male currently, it’s extremely important that you not allow your Doberman to play bite you. You have to be stern and dominate especially while they are a puppy or you will have a hard time later being seen as the pack leader by your Doberman.

100%! My doodle was sooo wild as a puppy and the prong collar was the only thing that worked during training, especially when she was learning to walk properly on the leash. Definitely think it’s one of the most useful tools for large breed dogs.

As someone who works at a veterinary hospital we appreciate people like you who put time in with their animals especially large breeds, it shows when they come around and we need to handle them. 👏🏽👏🏽 I myself also think keeping them on one food is great. Animals in the wild aren’t going out and buying random treats or extra food, they just eat what they need and dog food is made to meet their nutritional needs. You’re doing a good job Shayla 💛

My husband gifted me a Dobie puppy last November. She's 70 lbs. now. My husband does not live with me, he works in another town but we used to see each other once a month so it was ok. I haven't been able to see him since January because he's essential and my mom lives with me and she's 89. He was so excited to teach her tricks. I'm 4'11" with lumbar issues. She chewed my bedroom furniture, every corner. My breeder let all the puppies sleep with her. We did 2 weeks of board and train, she was crate trained, but my lab is not, and I thought her feelings would get hurt. So now I have a 70 lb. Crazy bed buddy. But, no one will even remotely come near my house if they are not invited, and my truck is safe when she's in it. But, because it's just been me, she's is my Velcro dog and I love her as much as my kids, because they're grown. You're doing an amazing job with Storm, she's a very well-behaved beauty.

@babydev19894 жыл бұрын
Yes.... training is so important regardless of how big or small your dog is. I have a medium dog - mini schnauzer mix that we rescued from the shelter. In our home she is not allowed on the couch or bed unless we give her the Ok to get on and she’s not allowed in the restrooms nor the kitchen. She knows to wait for her commands and definitely makes eye contact with us. Both both my partner and I make sure to do the same commands and train the same way so we won’t confuse her. When she goes to grandma’s house (my mother in law) they don’t give her boundaries or discipline so she knows what she can get away with. lol she’s not a bad dog but she knows she can get on the couch when grandma is not looking. It’s also definitely important to learn the needs of the breed - that will determine the diet they need and the amount of exercise/playtime they require to release all the energy especially in the puppy phase. Most of my training and learning are from KZbin videos and following dog trainers - so it’s possible!! Thank you for sharing stormy with us.

We raised/trained a lot of large dogs. It all started with our German Shepherd. We took all that we learned training him (from professionals and stuff we learned ourselves) to even our smaller dogs. We have always had working dogs. Even our small dog is a MinPen. These dogs are smart. Need an alpha. &if not trained properly, can themselves become the alpha over their owner. We have used prong collars, sharp finger to their side, etc... Dogs can take a lot. And to them, these are like love taps. In the wild or with their parents. Their parents would bite or charge at them when they are doing the wrong things. We are just acting as their animal.parent would act. That is what they know instinctually as well. Good job. Can't wait to see the whole squad of dogs together. Turbo, Storm and Mike. Dang. Watch out!!
