Yeah it’s insane how so many people hated on me back then for buying $5 monthly packs in games when they would rather spend 2 extra hours daily to match the $5 I spent to make progression faster. For them to match the $5 I spent, they spent 60 extra hours per month in game and they wear it as a badge of honor. It was always an insane concept for me.

@Ahlovendino Жыл бұрын
@@jaminonthisbeet3650 I have played an mmo so uh you're massively wrong on that point lol but you also choose to ignore that RMT is prevelant in a lot of mmos lol. I made a lot of money when I was a kid playing WoW doing boss raid carries for others. I also played maplestory which has a giant meso market , same with runescape. I think you forget that lots of people pay for convenience. Hell, in all of those games, people build scripts to snipe items on the auction house so they make a quick in game dollar or sell it for rmt trades or use scripts to farm mobs. Also you're comparing a genre that arknights isn't even in to argue your point. It makes no sense. Yes people circlejerk themselves for claiming to be f2p but you guys are also the same people that admonish whales and lowspenders for supporting the game that you cannot play without money being poured into it by other players. Monthly $5 packs and battlepass are pretty easy to afford and save lots of hours so for those that can afford it or have a good job so why are you questioning their monetary choices when they personally want to play the game in a way that makes sense to them because time saved + enjoyment > small amount of money and they have the means to do so.

As someone who has spent around $26K USD, I do regret dropping the game after getting to love Genshin's open world. Not having any debt to pay off really fueled my whaling in Arknights plus having a everything closed due to covid didnt help either. I officially dropped the game around Jan/Feb after my car broke down and realized I spent a whole car's worth of money within a year on gacha. I did come back whenever limited units came out and tried f2p rolls. Just like TheLostOne I did buy every weekly pass, did max refreshes. Going for full pots was fun too I probably spent $1K on Ch'en alone. Now in 2023, I picked it back up in April. My biggest regret is not actually PLAYING the story and learning other ways to play. Beside farming LMD and exp.

I am a monthly card player since almost the opening of AK Global server. With just around 5 euros per month, i already have almost all 6* and 5* Operators, and i know many other old players like me that are in more or less the same situation. I say this only to point out that in a game like AK you don't really have to spend so much, with a little monthly investment and choosing wisely when to pull and when to stop, you can get all the units you want and more. Unless you feel that you " have to have all units Potential 6 ", but then it's another matter. That said, anyone can spend their money the way the want. The way i see things, there is nothing wrong in being a whale, since noone can tell you how should you spend the money you earn with your job.

What cracks me up is at like the 18 minute mark he mentions "thinking about your spending, is it going to achieve your goals at the end of the game lifespan." This is exactly the thought process I use for my spending but for me it's whether or not I buy the $5-$10 monthly pack and for him it's whether or not he's going to drop 30 Gs. A real example of my decision making: in the past I played Clash of Clans for many years, I want to say 5 but definitely longer than I played Arknights. I never spent a dime on that game and the reason is because spending in that game is literally eliminating the game's content. You're giving them money to delete content out of the game for you. In Arknights I don't mind spending a little bit on like a monthly pass because it enhances the game by giving me variety it even adds a little bit of content in the form of paradox simulation or if you like to read all the profiles. So this is just an example of how game designers can make micro-transactions moderately less stupid by thinking about do they enhance or detract from the game? Genshin and most other gacha games fall kind of in the middle of this spectrum where if you spend a little you are getting more variety but if you spend a lot you're removing all of the challenge from the game and making it faceroll easy. What I would fault for this in gacha games in general is how they scale their character's power. In my opinion most games the potentials/constellations (or whatever they call dupes) are way too powerful. Likewise I find most games the scaling from levels and promotions is too much and makes it hard to keep your characters in a sweet spot where the stages are challenging. Great video btw, very interesting.
@raka2844 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've seen many people saying the game is easy while the f2p and low spender saying the game is challenging. Until the gamedev rise the difficulty stakes and now low spender and f2p get left behind for sometime. At least it settles now

The good doctor is the kind of whale I like and the gaming companies love lol. The fact he's willing to give away his game should he decide to walk away from the game is just _mwah! chef's kiss_ He's someone I'd consider as a responsible spender: he takes care of his own first. Food, house, transportation, travel-his comfort and that of his family are not sacrificed to fund his hobby (he didn't mention kid's education but I'm sure he's got that covered too). Compare this to other whale horror stories where gamer dad's family nearly gets broken up because he decided to spend the grocery budget, college fund, vacation money, etc. without their knowledge just so he can collect one more waifu and advance her stats. The worse offenders even go into debt. @Vifer, wish you asked him: 1. if he ever considered his hobby as gambling or saw himself as a gambler, and 2. how'd he feel if for some reason, the game studio goes bust and closes down the servers. How'd he react with that development, start playing another gacha game (or jump to another genre), buy a Switch/Steam Deck/portable console, or will Arknights be his last? Lastly, good interview!

Though the side note is i do have a family and still doing my phd study so there is no money left to spend in the entertainmet section. I'll be honest, as a FGO player/whale, I spent altogether... more than I like to amount just to get **one** copy of Raikou. And it was across two banners(Onigahsima and it's rerun). I spent more for gameplay than waifu in this case. Nowadays, if I go that hard in any game, it's mostly because of waifu/husbando reasons. haha Or if I care enough about the story/lore that I want it to finish in my lifetime. I have shifted from gacha to gacha (mostly from FEH to FGO to AK). But I'll be done when AK and those two end. Don't let meta change you. Be who you are. Edit: I originally tried Arknights for the first week, but because I was stationed in Italy. I didn't understand the timing for reset which caused me to miss getting Cliffheart on the login bonus. I came back because of Schwarz. And here I am. I don't recommend spending unless it's some sort of passion that is driving you. Personally, I don't regret spending money because at the end of the day, it's what keeps the story going. It's probably a whale/leviathan saying, but if I can support, I will.

It was one of my first inquiries watching genshin gameplay, compared to other games You have unskippable/fast-forwarded text boxes, making any quests take frustratingly long Alot of the interaction in the game has to be initiated by actually moving to the target, compared to menu navs in other games. In terms of loot, accessory is a huge time trap with its RNG drops. It doesnt feel like a comfort game like other games do, while i diss the 'auto' aspect that western studios try to push on interested players, and that itself is filter already
@mightyhypopopo2703 Жыл бұрын
Lol this is part of the reason I quit genshin. That alone isn't even it, the culmination of burnout, lack of QoL, questionable choices (dehya, abyss enemies making you waste time, etc...) brought it all together. Of course personal preference but arknights and star rail are more my thing since you don't need to spend as much time on it, and the genre I just prefer more.
