After the August 5, 2012, mass shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, a group of Sikh Americans decided to hit the road to help educate others about Sikhs, Sikhism and how Sikh Americans contribute to the community. They created the Sikh Riders of America.

Sikhism was created to fight Muslims with swords and spears. I doubt you can say it is the most peaceful, but that doesn't mean it is wrong. Sikhism teaches that when there is tyrannical oppression, and all other methods of reaching peace have been attempted and denied, then it is righteous to pick up the sword.

You guys are beautiful from the inside out. I had the most interesting experience with Sikhism. I was pregnant with my youngest son and feeling horrible. I was stricken with the worst morning sickness and unbearable exhaustion, I could barely care for my older son. One day, my husband and I went into a Sikh owned Indian restaurant and everything changed; I ate the delicious food and felt wonderful. I continued my pregnancy eating the divine ambrosia that is a Sikh food and had a big, strong, healthy baby boy. May God be with you all. Much love from Colorado.

I am a Sikh growing up I faced a lot of hate and bullying in high school and it was just plain wrong, not because I'm Sikh and not Muslim, it was just wrong . one thing about this video is wrong in my opinion. Sikh means student. I am a Sikh and I live in the untied states as well. But i do not agree that we are american first. the tenth Guru of sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaaj, held a ceremony on the 13 of april 1699. 5 people were baptized in the first initiation of Sikhism. Ever since that day, all sikhs were instructed to be a nation. The Khalsa. even before 1699, with the third Guru, Guru Amar Das Ji, sikhs are told to eat and pray together. The sikh community is known as the Saadh Sangat. The sikhs believe in a nation governed by their current guru, the scriptures, Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj. They also believe the Akaal Takht (timeless throne) in Amritsar, india to be the spiritual and governmental capital of their faith. Sikhs are instructed specifically to not be proud of their faith (as pride is a form of ego) but be grateful that they have found it. They are also told that the community is the Guru (alongside the scriptures). We Sikhs are united through our faith and by the Gurus' instruction (hukham). Sikhs are instructed not to pledge their loyalty to any other flag than that of the Sikhs. (Nishaan Sahib) therefore we are told that we are Sikh first and other classifications after. First and foremost we are Sikhs (students) of the Guru, and nothing else.

Sadh Sangat is where ever u live. If u live in America and eat in America, then there is loyalty to the people of America. Although, Khalsa knows these countries are temporary and are subjected to change, there should be no problem in Accepting American Sikh Identity. If you are loyal to your physical father, family, and country, only then u will be worthy of being a true son of Waheguru, ur spiritual father. Loyalty is learned through experience and it completes the stage 1 through physical relations and then comes stage 2 of spiritual progress. If you deny your physical father and become attached to being a Sikh of physical (outwardly and not inwardly), u will be considered a bastard to your physical father. Hence, country first and then Sikh.
