MEET THE HEAVY - IS-3 in War Thunder - OddBawZ

The IS-3 in War Thunder was once the King of heavy tanks. Now, it will face cold war era tanks that can easily penetrate its thick well designed armour.
The IS-3 is still a contender, however. In a full downtier, there aren't many tanks that can punch through its armour. At this battle rating you'll face WW2 vehicles that don't really stand a chance against you.
The 122mm cannon on the IS-3 is still enough to banish most enemy tanks with ease which leaves the only real weakness of the IS-3 being its reload speed at 20 seconds.
Overall, this is just the classic heavy tank problem. Great in downtiers but considerably challenging in uptiers! :)

I remember facing this thing in my stock 6.0 Tiger E years ago. When there was no armour showcase and this monster was at 7.0. I bounced 3 times on his flat side then cried and died. I wish you a good recovery Odd

I just love seeing IS 3 player that angling their hull but completely exposing their ufp that become a flat surface. You can only angling when you have a cover to hide your ufp because your frontal armor is already angled.

Play the IS-4M next, it's slower, with theoretically thicker armor, but HEATFS and APDS doesn't care. It's painful.

5:13 I’ve noticed sometimes if it looks super dark, go to the menu, click on options, then close the menu and it will brighten back up I don’t know how or why that works but I discovered it on accident. It doesn’t always work but it is 100% noticeable difference when it does

I wasn't sure I should spade the IS3 until I saw this video. I seams like a good tank in the right situations,a monster in a downtier which might not be so uncommon since 6.7 is such a common br for most nations and if you get an uptier the T 44 100 will work great

I have no idea how OddBawZ has enough luck to have a barrel or a track :D My experience with russian heavies is once you shoot you can say goodbye to your tank, unless you have a chance to traverse back in time. And i have no idea why some players are aiming at the is3 front plate with conventional rounds.

They are likely taking chance shots at the barrel. They have no other option, as heavies like this are in a weird spot balance wise. Conventional rounds are next to useless from the front, and any vehicle with HEAT or darts will negate the armor entirely. Best option if you have Conventional rounds is to hail Mary the barrel and hopefully force him back to repair

there are lots of vehicles that are hard to pen frontally at their BR. just track, barrel and go round to their side. works on the IS-3 too. Tiger II can pen it from the front, but you have to aim for the weakspot, which is about as big as an mg port.

Any else remember a year or 2 ago when the devs said they had a whole new weather system with dynamic in game weather and they used the example "start raining at the beginning of the game then by the end it's sunny" well I do and I haven't seen it yet

Fact: The Is-3 did fought in Ww2 since the European war ended they were transported to the Far East and fought in the Soviet invasion of Manchuria but there is little evidence of them fighting in Manchuria since there’s only few of them

I mean, factually speaking; the IS-3 had little to no combat experience. It was only used in the victory parade in Berlin at the end of the war, which spooked both the UK and the USA to make the Conqueror & M103 respectively. Edit: France also got the spooks from seeing the IS-3 and the AMX-50 was created as a result.

True, very much true however it did have combat experience later during the 6 day war in the 1950s where Israeli M48s did little damage to the IS-3M model. The only reason Israel captured IS-3s and experimented with them was due to the fact that it did not perform well in the desert and the reload was too slow against the more mobile M48 tanks and it suffered heavily in mobility.
