Inaugurated in 2017, the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) Miami is the latest addition to the city’s dynamic institutional scene. Central to its mission is an unapologetic commitment to openness and inclusivity.
ICA Miami’s exhibition spaces can be rearranged flexibly through a series of modular walls; visitors are invited to spend time in its sculpture garden, where works by major figures such as Allora & Calzadilla or Mark Handforth can be admired; and entry to the museum is free. These elements give ICA Miami the aura of a modern forum in which culture can be examined, debated, and appreciated by all.
For Art Basel Miami Beach 2018, ICA Miami will present two major exhibitions, each looking at a very different understanding of American modernism: a survey of works by the iconic feminist artist Judy Chicago, and a Larry Bell retrospective, appraising the legacy of one of the Light and Space movement’s founders.
