Meet the Micro Uzi!

In this installment of RECOILtv, we ride the lightning on an absurdly small package. The Micro Uzi is perfectly named, and packs a spray of lethality in the most compact of packages. This bullet hose comes from a storied line as far back as the late 1940s. With the ability to use a foldable stock, the Micro Uzi can be tamed quite a bit, but how does it fare in the palm of your hand? Tag along with RECOIL's Dave Merrill, and Vertx's Dave Rhoden as they try and tame this little beast and do their best reenactment of Chuck Norris wielding his favorite Invasion USA gun.

The gun is only going upward because of the force from the powder charge and exit of the bullet. It goes up either way because the only thing changing is the angle of the grip. You could turn a gun upside down it wouldn't shoot downward.

chrismanmadrid actually it would go downwards. the recoil is directly parallel to the trajectory of the bullet and it's directly towards you. the only reason it goes up is because the grip is below the chamber, so it acts like a fulcrum rotating the gun upwards. so if you did hold your gun upside down, the recoil would push the muzzle downwards.

Well the gravity conjunction theory wouldn't allow that to happen due to complications in the trigger mechanism. The danvalt trigger problem I believe they called it. Plus without a vice or something like that you couldn't physically hold it upside down unless you are contorting your body. The grip would also be equal upside down so it would actually shoot quite far upward I'm not surprised people on KZbin can't understand this simple science.

The only thing that’s reduced is the mass in force = mass x acceleration and in momentum = mass x velocity. But the faster acceleration and velocity removed the lighter mass benefit and made the kinetic energy of the reciprocating mass overall much higher.

The reason the rate of fire keeps increasing as the size decreases is not on purpose- it's a side effect of the simple design. As the action was modified and downsized, the distance the bolt traveled upon firing decreased from the Uzi to the Mini, and finally to the Micro. This smaller bolt travel distance is what allows the micro uzi to fire so insanely quick- it has to travel less than half the distance of the original Uzi.

So nice video. As some have posted the cyclic rate increases because the stroke gets shorter. Here is some thing else to ponder. When they go from open bolt to closed bolt the cyclic rate also increases. A full size Uzi closed blot’s cyclic rate is around 1,000. This is because you have two springs instead of just one. Now the micro they are shooting has a heavy bolt in it. The originals had a 2,000 cyclic rate. I know this because I own both of these guns and mine are from the 80’s and are both closed bolt guns.

The rate of fire increase is unavoidably tied to the bolt travel distance. That's why the Mini and Micro Uzis fire so fast. In fact, the full size Uzi has optional rubber buffer blocks that increase its rate of fire from the original 600 rounds per minute. There are 3 buffer sizes. Small gives it 700 rpm, the medium buffer pushes it to 750-ish and the 3rd buffer pushes it to about 800-850`rpm. Of course, it varies with the ammo used too. Apparently that very hot Israeli 9mm SMG ammo marked with a brown painted tip can push it to over 900 rpm with the big buffer block. Edit: The Micro Uzi is a closed bolt design because the risk of repeated out of battery detonations and blowing up in your hand is too high for an open bolt gun that size. The bolt is accelerated forward so quickly they were (rightfully) afraid most ammo would detonate on a fixed firing pin too early
