I love these longer compilations! I put them on while I’m doing something else or even settling down to sleep, they’re interesting and that way I don’t mind if I’ve seen the video sometime before.

I love Sci Show, especially anything to do with biology and astronomy. I can, and have, spent an afternoon on it without even noticing the time.

Some cultures sorta understood the Milky Way as a band of stars, before telescopes; a Navajo creation story goes like this: in the beginning the sky was dark and too empty. The stars were gathered by the First People and put in a container, then they planned out the constellations and began to place them carefully. Coyote saw this, and watched them, but Coyote being impatient got tired of watching. Coyote grabbed the bucket of stars and flung the stars into the sky, looking up happily at his creation of the Milky Way. (In other versions he knocks the jar of stars over; there’s a few variations)

What would be fascinating is if when large clouds of dusk coalesce into the central black hole of a galaxy, the remnants around that black hole experience a ripple like dropping a pebble into a pond. But because the dust would inevitably begin to spin, that drag on the dust remnants creates the spiral arms. Idk maybe I’m crazy but I do find the thought fascinating.

Anyone with a pool to test wave patters? Use a spinning sphere that bobs up and down and see what type of pattern it makes. Use a variety of rotational and bobbing speeds. Test patterns during acceleration, deceleration, and constant speed. Should be helpful to see how stars etc form. Try putting 2 beside each other, and spinning in both directions, to see how the waves interact.

So when I see the arm in the night sky, is it the inside/outside? (...I would also add top/bottom the question, but I think it hasn't them at least if/when we decide to assign such things to space).

It's great to find out that after centuries of study, that we now are understanding the intricacies of computer simulations and modelling. Who knows if any actual realistic knowledge over what is actually going on in the universe was discovered, but at least we now have some very good visuals.

I climbed a fire tower when I was a kid. I got to the top, bottom of the building and began opening the trap door. Without a word from above the door slammed shut. Be careful, we truthfully don't know when or if that will happen. Ready for it I would never be... prepared... how would one prepare for that?

What about the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy? Some astronomers believe that the SDG is intersecting the Milky Way as we speak and the milky streak we observe across the night sky isn't the Milky Way at all. They actually are now saying that it is the star trail of the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy and our solar system was originally formed there and later dropped into the Milky Way where we are now.

"collection of stars" can include "things on fire", so Aristotle was almost right (just not in our atmosphere.)

If anyone invented a time machine the first thing he should do is to go to Aristotle and tell him to stop making theories on every matter. That man alone though he had many correct theories but put our mankind thousand years behind

Trying to make sense if mas if some exoplanets considering moon's. And how far the moon is would also expand the planet's well orbits reach . But that would be a certain direction based on the moons orbit. So that might be a way to detect exomoons

Traffic jams NEVER "just happen sometimes" there is ALWAYS either an old codger driving waaaay too slow, also could be an old bitty grinding her husband or chatting with another old bitty, another is a woman putting on makeup and driving not only slow but swerving erratically like a drunk, an idiot road raging and slowing down to yell at someone that in turn oblige them and yell back and piss everyone off behind them and/or teens with new licenses PLUS adults also talking on the cell phone AND TEXTING at the same time...all this and more but getting tired and even a little triggered telling you at SciShow what you already know but refuse to face...because all this, PLUS, is why "RANDOM pop-up traffic jams just appear!"
@tobyihli9470 Жыл бұрын
They took about half the video before they used the term, space time. How refreshing. I have been the only human who is aware that there is no such, “thing,” as time, but I’m hoping others will come around soon so maybe scientists will finally stop making utter fools of themselves. Really, science needs to move forward, but it cannot, until it comes to terms with the fact that THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS “TIME!”

As much as the picture of m87 and sagg a* are amazing, people forget that they are only a model based on a couple of pixels. Even a couple of pixels are amazing but youtubers and astromoners get excited about 'guesses' and reproduce guesses as reality. Bring on some bigger telescopes so we know what is really going on.
