“Don’t be afraid to have a really broad background, even if you think it’s going to be irrelevant.” I love this. It was always my struggle in college when adding courses, “Just because I liked them.” It’s actually opened more doors for me than I once thought, merely because I went off on a tangent and studied something because it sounded fun. Lol

The discovery of the Shor algorithm in 1994 was a pivotal moment in quantum computing, highlighting the potential for quantum computers to solve certain problems exponentially faster than classical computers. This has not only pushed forward the boundaries of computer science but has also driven significant interest and investment in quantum computing research and development. Shor's work continues to be a foundational piece in the ongoing evolution of quantum technologies. Prof shor was at fore front of genisis of quantum computing. The genius of Prof Shor.

Why do you think tenured MIT profs make cents
@vitorsousa1683 ай бұрын
@@dantraficonte8752 Because I am a tenured Professor too (in Europe) and, to the amount of effort we employ, we receive cents (in relative terms) compared to, for instance, youtubers and influencers.

@@dantraficonte8752 because I am a tenured Prof in Europe and, despite we earn good money, its cents compared to popular youtubers and influencers. Most of them do not create value for society; they merely exacerbate global indirect network effects and, thanks to the dumb and static remuneration scheme proposed by KZbin, some narcisist millionaires are proliferating worldwide. In relative terms (wage/effort or wage/time spent), this academic receives cents. In limit, theorerically, he may receive a wage equal to zero (i.e., he pays to work) or even negative if you deduce taxes.

He says that you can't do this with normal computers, only with quantum computers. Can anybody explain to me why this is so?
@JayshaanBatth2 ай бұрын
The quantum computer can speed up this process due it being able to do superposition with its quantum qubits. A classical computer wouldn't be able to due these processes at the same speed of a quantum computer. Thats all i know but yeah
@artificialintelligencechannel2 ай бұрын
@@JayshaanBatth thanks. But is there some proof that a quantum computer can indeed do this?
@MetaAnomie17 күн бұрын
@@artificialintelligencechannel Yes, there are a number of quantum algorithms that demonstrate this. Probably the simplest is Deutsch-Jozsa, which aims to determine if a function is constant (always giving you the same result regardless of the input) or balanced (giving you one result half of the time and another the other half). With traditional computing you can only rule out the "balanced" case if you try over half the number of possible inputs and look at the results of each. With the quantum version you can do it with just one try (because you can represent all the inputs at once in a superposition). Quantum computers aren't just fast traditional computers; they are based on a completely different kind of logic/math (i.e. quantum information theory). So they require completely new algorithms (like Shor's) to be useful.

We have reached quantum eigenfunction states but still cant invent a projector board that doesnt use chalks. Erasable multicolor marker pens to write on movable whyteboards or transparencies that autoproject and print without heatburning the writer.
