Coincidentally I was wearing my father’s old Taylor Jersey and without me even asking when I went to say goodbye to him, he asked me “you don’t think I’d let you leave without signing my jersey did you?”. I don't care what anyone says, Lawrence Taylor is the best defensive player ever to play football. I'm a New York Giants fan, and watched this man wreak havoc play in play out, game in game out for 13 seasons. @lomax3436 жыл бұрын
@ Jreds - I'm not comparing them. I merely point out that, by his own admission, LT frequently took the field with insufficient blood in his alcohol stream. This does not enhance anyone's ability to do anything - except to say stupid things and fall over. I have no personal experience of cocaine (yes, I've led a sheltered life), but I'm reliably informed that it does little to enhance one's judgment. A player on cocaine may play with fierce intensity, but he does not necessarily play smart - and that's just as important. As for playing under the influence of alcohol and cocaine simultaneously - well, I doubt that they cancel each other out. Now don't get me wrong. I still think that, with the possible exception of Jim Brown, LT is the greatest player in the history of the NFL. I just can't help wondering if he couldn't have been greater still.

He could diagnose a play like no other, and seemingly always ended up around the ball at the end of a play. His pursuit and motor were relentless, in combination with his speed, strength, technique and diagnosis ability. He was also excellent in special teams coverage as well.

Two words: Dick Butkus. More disciplined. He was so physically superior to his opposition. Dick was twice the size of any LB in the NFL during his era. LT was just the best during his era. But he was not more intimidating than Butkus. Back in the Butkus days, players could bite each other for gosh sakes.
@tnewsome91214 жыл бұрын
Yeah, sure. Butkus was just a middle linebacker. LT had sacks, tackles behind the line, interceptions in coverage and stuffed guys in the middle and goal line. Butkus was great but even Ray Lewis was better and he came into the league at 218 pounds....
@campkemp94666 жыл бұрын
It wasn't just LT that broke that leg if you watched the replay...the second guy on top didn't help and LT was horrified by it! So don't make him out to be a monster because it kinda looks that way...talk on how he played pick up basketball with Michael Jordan in college! And LT was pretty good!
@mikechambers91295 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I remember watching him nearly his whole career, including watching the Theisman play live. Decades later, it still makes me queasy. Can you imagine what the record books would look like if the Patriots had an LT caliber player during the Belechik years? Or even a couple of Watt brothers?

He is simply the GOAT he changed the way offenses blocked defenders but LT had speed, power, strength, agility and a never for attitude and transformed the Giants defence from bad to excellent after 1 season. Deserves his Hall of Fame status and one of the greatest linebackers of all time.

Let's just ignore Ronnie Lott was in the same draft class and lower pick
@illuminatedcrosshairs78657 жыл бұрын
Byron Bezuidenhout nobody is ignoring it. Lott was a great player, but not a freaking monster like LT who controlled the game ..
@dewaynecoleman19897 жыл бұрын
Byron Bezuidenhout Arguably one of the best, had he not been on such great teams I could see your point, but Ronnie Lott had to share the limelight with so many Hall of Fame players. Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, etc.... as where L.T. wasn't on that many great teams, thus making him stand out more.
@lelouchvibritannia40287 жыл бұрын
Dewayne Coleman Steve Atwater is greater, imo.
@andersengebretson37867 жыл бұрын
Shahryar Choudhry not at all. Atwater is an all time great and is probably the hardest hitting safety ever but there was no one greater at the safety position than Ronnie Lott. Hard hitter, great coverage, and have guts. He even had part of his pinky amputated just to play in the super bowl.
@lelouchvibritannia40287 жыл бұрын
Anders Engebretson Look at what Atwater did to Christian Okoye. That dude is 40 lb's heavier than Atwater, yet Atwater still laid him out. "Nigerian Nightmare"? More like "Not Today". Atwater is still the GOAT imo. He shoild be in the HOF already. Fucking NFL.

I was too young to remember LT in the early to mid 80s , I caught him in the late 89 early 90s , but he was most definitely a household name in our house on Sundays’ and when my older brother played Tecmo Bowl with his homeboys

41 beers isn't that much to a guy like that. I've downed a case of 24 several times in my college days and I was like 160/70 pounds. Factor in Taylors body mass, his elite physical condition, potential drugs, natural high and adrenaline of being drafted to NFL it's not surprising at all.
