Out of curiosity, when is it considered too late to switch out a running mate? If Harris wins the nomination (or just prior) and polling still looks unfavorable, could she replace herself with her chosen VP running mate? Moreover, if that new VP subsequently runs for President, can they then drop out and say, "now my VP replaces me"? This seems to lack clear rules and I'm just trying to figure out what the official guidelines are for such switches (especially since no voting is required).
