Sooooo good! I’m so proud of this man and everything he does and sets out to achieve. I’ve never been surrounded by someone with such a growth mindset like him before. Thom has a willingness to always reflect on how he would/could do things differently, he has a desire to keep learning and he is inspired by the success of others. He acknowledges his failures while finding inspiration to keep improving. He’s willing to take risks, overcome challenges and learn from his mistakes. I’m a lucky girl to have him here by my side, encouraging and believing in me always. ❤

Idk if I've ever seen another podcaster with such an intent and genuine listening and absorbing face as Tech. U never cease to impress me. There's NOTHING more respectful or flattering to a guest (or quite frankly simply to another human being) than to be able to listen to them and process what they're saying with genuine concern and attention. That's so impressive and professional to me. U are a class act, sir,always 🧐 ✌️💜 Let this be an example for anyone looking to improve their relationships and communication skills, that's how it's done, kids. Take notes!
@technsports6 ай бұрын
Appreciate that! Been working a lot on my interviewing skills. In my opinion when I have a guest on, we are there to listen to them, not to me. So I have two ears and one mouth, need to listen twice as much as I talk.
@tessa.robles.846 ай бұрын
I've always liked that saying about 2 ears because I feel the simplest skills we possess are actually our biggest assets. You do an excellent job and especially with the thoughtful responses and well worded questions you bring to the table! Well done, my friend! I feel the ability to sit down, shut up, and get out of yourself in order to have a meaningful interaction with another human is becoming a lost/foreign concept, and it's sad. One of my fav things to do is conversate. I absolutely love sitting down and picking someone's brain. It's a challenge and a fun pastime for me to have a good old-fashioned conversation with someone. It will be a sad sad day when ppl become so stuck in their devices that they just stop seeing one another. This just made me think of a super interesting Ted talk of a Dr friend that I grew up with. Her name is Dr. Krista Burns and she is a chiropractor who talks about tech neck, selfie thumb, and digital dementia. It's super interesting, it's a 5 min Ted Talk kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3LddqyHgZKpqNksi=lW7bXPpyOIkxcyr6 Also, did you ever get to listen to Richie Rich? Let's Ride or Do Gs Get To Go To Heaven? I'm curious to hear. If not, they're some perfect throwback Sunday jams 😎✌️💜🙃

I've listened to interviews with Thom before, but this one really clicked for me. The intensity of the passion for what he's doing comes through and it's something I hope to honor through my own work. I'm closing in on the end of year two with my online media reselling business and have my sights set on opening a brick and mortar shop within the next 3-5 years to help round things out and account for an outlet for all the inventory otherwise rendered useless due to online price points. Seeing people succeed and innovate within their lane is incredibly motivating and I'm grateful for this discussion.

Thom, I'm a bookseller (mainly brick & mortar for now) and I'm *very* thankful to hear that you try to find homes for decent readable books, instead of throwing them away. We don't throw *any* books away unless they are moldy or missing pages; some stores throw away all that don't have ISBN's! Yikes, some of the best books out there are vintage! Anyway, I believe that part of our job as booksellers is preservation of the books, and getting them into the hands of those who will read and appreciate them: those who can afford to buy, all the way down the line to those who can't afford to buy but greatly appreciate donations. Thank you! (ETA: Have you tried selling books in foreign languages? We sell some even in our little store!) (BTW: I buy lots of books, but *never* with stock photos, or cut-and-paste/AI descriptions. I will gladly pay extra to see *exactly* what I will be getting!)

Goodness, in a peaceful state, Thom's eyes are really piercing. Would not want to get on Thom's bad side. Can absolutely appreciate stewing on something for a long while then revenge. Made us smile. Australia is still on our travel bucket list for many years. He is observant, as we've also seen, the Goodwill stores and Salvation army have their online selling sites; of course they are keeping all the very good items, thus knocking out the small online sellers.

I live in major Australian city, have had a amazon prime account before Australia had "amazon" as i bought alot dvds in the past from there. Thom was right about the launch into Australia , it was terrible. I do think covid helped them alot and now in big cities where you can get next day delivery its defiantly growing fast (for buyers). I will even pay a extra few dollars for something on amazon vs ebay knowing i can get it next day or 2 days later and there customer service is very good for buyers. I hope they continue to expand into food and all other catergories as there logistics are unmatched in Australia in such small amount of time. Im excited as buyer to see how quickly and fast they can expand as i know there a number of new Amazon warehouse being built.

The method Thom talks about listing using a scan of a barcode was actually how you could list items on ebay when they self populated the listing for you from a quick scan of the barcode. Now there is a time consuming item specifics section to fill out grrrr
@technsports6 ай бұрын
I think the software will populate the item specifics.
@davidnorton74646 ай бұрын
I used to use a USB scanner on my pc, after scanning a barcode, the UBC, ISBN, Title, Artist, Author, Region Code etc... Would automatically be populated into my listing. I then just had to add photos and item condition details and hit list this item - done. You now need to go into item specifics and type in the artist, author, title, ISBN number etc. Q. Why did ebay make listing so much slower than it was? @@technsports

All the item specifics is over the top, just simple straight forward is good enough. I dont know how many times customers will contact me about a detail and it is actually on the listing. People use their phones to buy and dont expand out the arrows with the info. Generally people are lazy. So tired of tech issues with eBay too. Its become too big and complicated.

It definitely can use some improvements, especially on mobile.

Make sure you do send eBay feedback they are slowly listening. I noticed a few of the things I suggested have been implemented such as the inclusion of the standard edition. I kept asking for it and kept putting it in. You don’t ask you don’t get. Jodie Here at Jodstas Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺

Would you be better doing a Joint Venture with a US Based company with the existing software? Great video!!!

Not really. Have approached a few, some don't even bother to respond. Other says what they do in US doesn't work in AUS for a few different reasons.

Hey Tom, learned a lot from you here. I'm a new Aussie media reseller working from home. One question: I'm branching out to games and DVDs, is it best to get a proper disc cleaning machine to fix scratches and so on?
@technsports6 ай бұрын
They talk about disc cleaners a lot on the media call in the group, there are many different disc cleaners for all levels of sellers
@dahub11276 ай бұрын
I wouldn't suggest going out and buying one straight up. However if you are serious and going to go hard yes I would. I started with a JFJ (cheap American machine that is slow and messy) then I upgraded to the ELM range Eco Pro 2 / Eco Master. There are some other machines available in Aus. Venmill industries have a good dealing in WA. I would be biased in just saying get an Eco Pro 2 but you need to do your own research and look at the purchase cost and then the running cost. We are talking $2000+ for the machines. We will be releasing some further information about the machines in the next couple of months. Thanks, Thom.

When people say they're the "number X seller of X on eBay" - how do they know? Is there a ranking list somewhere that shows something like that? I'm asking because Thom mentioned his girlfriend was the number 3 seller of books in Australia.

Hi Guys, very nice and good talk, but I am wondering Thom, aren't you putting the horse behind the carriage? What I mean is that you are developing software and then make pictures, that is a thought from a year or older because now days the pictures (Items) are recognize by images.(Google lens?) So what if you make all images and let AI and your soft together make the listings, I am doing the same as a Lego parts seller, instead of looking something up, searching for minutes, there are now apps which tell you which part you have in 10 seconds. So if you have the image you almost have a listing. Keep up the good thoughts and work both of you! (You to Mel 🙂)

I believe he is working with AI for the software. I'm excited to see it
@marhabricks45236 ай бұрын
@@technsports That is the way to go for Thom, his mindset is great, the willing is there and AI will help him, I am also very hesitant on AI but via Lego part recognizing app I am amazed what is possible, it is putting together a lot of knowledge, curios now for the follow up!

I’m interested in sell through rate on 135,000 listings. Also, why the need for domination? Is it ego? If money is not sole purpose, then making room for others is in best interest of the platform? Genuine question.
