Agree, I did a pilgrimmage in Japan in 2018 and climbed Mt Fuji, it's a truly remarkable experience.

As someone who adores the works of Musashi’s mind, this is amazing to know that a place like this exists. If I ever find myself taking a trip to Japan, I’m definitely making this a priority destination. Thank you Shogo.

12 year old me read Shogun, then everything I could get my hands on in the early 90s (Eiji Yoshikawas Musashi etc.) in germany.. and it drove me to learn more about the 2-sword-samurai, even buying the 5 Rings from the meager allowance I got from my parents :)

I am a big fan of musashi, i love listening to the book of 5 rings and my favorite work of his. the 21 precepts of the dokkodo. It has helped me greatly in my life. I remain thankful for his teachings that was lucky enough to be passed down into history.

Thank you for the tour of Hachidai shrine. As a young man I read the novel Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa. I read the novel to my children as well. There are many great lessons contained within it. I hope that I may visit the shrine too one day. Thank you again for a most enlightening and edifying tour.

Thank you Shogo for bringing us there to visit! I hope to visit one day and experience how the terrain feels myself. I am sure it's different now, but I bet some of it feels similar. This is the battle where he showed up really early I believe. I don't idolize battles but I find them amazingly interesting nevertheless!

I unfortunately didn't visit Hachidai Jinja when I was in Kyoto, but I have visited both Ganryujima and Reigandō and they are truly wonderful places. I really hope to be able to go back to Japan soon and when I do I'll make sure to return to Kyoto because there is still so many places there that I want to pay my respects at.

My last visit to Kyoto has three highlights, Kendo Keiko at the Budokudan (the only Nito Ryu player that night...), Visiting the site of the Sagarimatsu/Ichijoji, and visiting the Hachidai Shrine. The Omamori on the inside of my Do is from there. I can't wait to be able to return!

Kyoto was my favorite city wen I visited Japan, am looking forward to return for sure. A place filled with nature and history, not to mention beauty and peace. Love the edit too, very japanese xD Would love to get the musics you play on your videos :) Looking forward to go back sometime soon.

i remember watching another move doc about Miyamoto Musashi he fought at the battle of Battle of Sekigahara but was on the losing side and then was hunted down as a criminal but he dedicated his life to the art of the sword

The word "Musashi" is also the name of the legendary sister ship of the IJN Yamato "IJN Musashi"

I always heard the cicadas as a kid growing up in Alabama, but nothing like in Japan and South Korea, so loud in comparison. And about twice the size.

based on that statue, are wakizashi commonly use long handle/tsuka length back then ? it's about the same length as katana/tachi handle while nowadays it is commonly known that wakizashi definitely got shorter handle since its quite complicated to wear 2 swords with long handle idk, if this long handle wakizashi are commonly used back then or it's just Miyamoto Musashi's personal preference that statue and the Vagabond Manga got similiar look since wakizashi's are shown having a long handle/tsuka

I have heard that Musashi was actually late to the duel because he stopped after praying to have tea with the priest. Do you know if that is true?

I’m pretty sure there are scriptures describing what musashi was assumed to do and take part in, I don’t have any reference but your best bet is through those

Where is the site of Miyamoto Musashi's true grave? A quick search reveals all the places he is NOT buried. Where is his actual body located?
