free range FTW. i don't believe we were meant to be vegans, but if you purchase meat that's not free range and/or organic, you're directly supporting these kinds of people.
@AntiSpeciesistWorld12 жыл бұрын
Alrighty. There are resolutions to many of those problems, but you can still do good by not buying factory farmed meat, but only buying free-range meat if you wish.

yes mankind has always eaten meat, but never have they caged animals and specifically bred them for food until recently. That is what is disgusting about meat to people.

@imTheOneEyedSquirrel Squirrel, there are PLENTY of organizations other than PETA that promote a veg based diet. And also, "free range" hens does not mean that the chickens are kept outside or even get to be outside. It just means they can't be kept in cages, but they are actually packed by the thousands in huge sheds like in 0:09. There is no need for name calling or anything, it doesn't help the matter :)

It's not about being a vegetarian. It's about making informed choices about where you get your meat from. If people stopped buying products from these animals, this would stop.

The FAO report found that current production levels of meat contribute between 14 and 22 percent of the 36 billion tons of "CO2-equivalent" greenhouse gases the world produces every year. It turns out that producing half a pound of hamburger for someone's lunch a patty of meat the size of two decks of cards releases as much greenhouse gas into the atmosphere as driving a 3,000-pound car nearly 10 miles.

@masteranthrax Good point but Peter Singer makes the best point in my view. He explains that we have such a surplus of food today in this country that it is no longer neccessary for us to eat meat, especially for the sake of these animals. Look at how chubby our kids are. We no longer need meat for survival as we did 2.5 million uears ago.

@ljflemin PETA may be a bit extreme, but this is reality for most meat in the country. Trust me, I've been to a sales barn enough to know, I've seen killing. You don't have to be vegetarian, but at least be aware, know where your meat is coming from, and be compassionate.

To anyone who has ever had a pet - if you have ever seen your cat or your dog scared or in pain, you know that it is almost unbearable to watch. Now take this and multiply it by 1000 and you get a sliver of the horror and anguish that these poor animals are experiencing. They can think and experience pain and fear just like you and me. They don't know why this is happening to them. Oh wait because some idiot needs a Big Mac today. Screw this.

If I don't buy meat, the meat industry has less money. And more notably since there are millions of vegetarians who do not buy meat, that leaves the meat industry millions of dollars short than what they would be otherwise. So that means less animals can be raised and killed because of that. If all vegetarians both meat, they'd probably have enough to open up new farms and all. That is what I meant by saving animals.
@marKism6914 жыл бұрын
This is not about being a vegetarian or not. This is about being human. The treatment of these animals is cruel and inhuman. This industry has developed out of a desire for greater profits and nothing more. If we, as a people, are prepared to torture other living creatures for profit than there is really no limit what we will do for profit. I will not support the industrial farming industry and neither should any person that has the slightest compassion for a living being.
@AntiSpeciesistWorld12 жыл бұрын
I agree. But I think In-vitro meat will replace the conventional meat industry & thus meat-eaters will be satisfied but animals wont suffer. But for now I should not support suffering, even if cruelty free meat & meat with far less greenhouse gases exist in the future, it would be still wrong of me to support suffering now regardless. As a utilitarian I feel I cannot morally justify supporting the meat industry for now and should help spread these ideas even if it will not reach the majority.

Saw this yesterday, and I could simply not put a single piece of meat into my mouth today, so I guess I'm kindof a vegetarian now. I feel bad for those cows that are forced to be milked, and the chickens that are forced to lay eggs. I'm living on a farm, and I know how the cows and chickens here are threat. Pretty good actually, and we're using our own products, but at winter-times we don't have chickens or cows. What do I eat instead of milk and eggs and meat? Isn't it really unhealthy?
