@@maryi685 They scan you to see if you are carrying any thargoid or guardian cargo. If it's thargoid, they will give you around 20 seconds to eject the cargo, then they will take it. If it's guardian, they will usually attack right away. If you eject the guardian items before they scan you, they will destroy them.
