They were perfect for the MTV era of the mid to late 1980s. They were kind of mysterious though. They are from Norway? Really? Who is that lead singer from Take On Me ?There wasn’t a word about the other two guys even though they were primarily responsible for creating that wonderful music . There is no denying that Take on Me was the megahit of 1985 . It’s like an 80s version of Abba‘s Take a chance on me about relationships and how willing you are to dive into your soul and take a chance on somebody . This is perfectly enscapulated in the famous video even willing to dive into and get lost in the pages of a comic book to search for your true love .

They may not like each other, but they can’t deny the magic that happens between the three of them. I think Pal is jealous of Morten’s voice and look and Morten wishes he had the song writing abilities of Pal. Magne evens them out. If Morten didn’t have the voice, he would have been kicked out long ago. They all have their parts to play, and they play them well. Morten hates being famous, but he does love that mic.

I kind of sense, especially after the documentary, they have a resentment with Take on Me. How that song really stuck with their image. Also the fact that they were boxed in with many as a pop/boy band. I think they try to be polite about it, but it really bugs them. Maybe a part of the reason they keep going is the hope that somehow they can convince more people that they aren’t Take on Me and a pop/boy band. That they have offered and still offer so much more. They want a better legacy. Too bad they don’t see all of us fans who truly know they are phenomenal and not a pop/boy band.

Without three strong personalities, there would hardly be an a-ha. They have come as far as they have done precisely because they were stubborn and had what it took. Something to think about. Otherwise, can you reflect on whether you would have been able to work so closely and be so dependent on other people for decades without coming into conflict with the others? I think they have done well, after all.

I´m 50 and love A-Ha since I was 13. Huge fan, defend them every where from that one hit wonder conversation but sometimes Pal gets on my nerves. This attitude that he is too good to answer or to even think about the answers and the annoyed look irritates me. He is not tooo good for A-ha or else he would have gone separate ways years ago and haven´t done so because Savoy was not has huge as A-ha. SO a bit of grattitude for what he is able to do in life would be good. Not for fans but in general. He looks like he thinks he can.t be bothered with lesser things,

It’s not an attitude. It’s his personality. He comes off as a left brained introvert to me. My boyfriend is a left brained introvert and acts very similar. People assume he’s rude a lot too. It’s more that they have to be careful on what they use their energy on, so they usually use it on what they find important. Pål, I imagine, is about the music, so he’d rather use it on that then social stuff. Also, it’s harder for left brained introvert a to pick up on social cues and stuff. They usually find it easier to say less then risk saying something wrong. Plus social stuff is draining to an introvert. Magne is definitely the extrovert. Why not let him do a lot of the talking? It’s their thing anyway.🤷🏻‍♀️ Morten feels like me, a right brained introvert. He gets the social cues and stuff. He will humor people and do some talking. However, he likes saving his energy for what he finds important. That’s why he can be quiet or seem kind of half there then all of the sudden go on a rant with something he finds interesting. No, Pål isn’t being a jerk, interviews aren’t his thing. Get him his guitar and let him get to the music. He’ll be fine 😉

I think he’s just a left brained introvert. Not miffed. Just not always good at socializing. He seems more about the actual music. Magne is definitely an extrovert, I believe. Used to? They STILL are a great band. Just don’t expect that everything will be so perfect. They have had their bad and good things as a band. Because they are human beings. Pal and Mags have been friends since they were kids. Morten is friend of them since they met him. Why do you say they can’t stand each other? I’m a psychologist and I tell you, by the way they all look, they look tired, not because they “hate” each other. Probably they are just working too hard and of course, they are not those young men from before. Those voices and bodies are not at their 100% strength. And yes, Pal doesn’t like so much doing interviews. That was when he was younger. He is the most quiet member of the band.
@richardostby
@richardostby 2 жыл бұрын
With all due respect. I have been following the band since 1984/85. I have been a massive fan for a long time. I have also read enough books and articles enough to know the tension between the members of the band. They have always created magic together, that’s why they still fill concert arenas around the world. No one sings like Morten Harket. a-ha has always been my favourite band, that’s why it’s so sad to see that the only thing bringing them together these days are the money, I wish they would do this for the love of music and because they wanted to be in the same room/studio but they don’t. The tension of the band members are well known and documented in books/films/articles for so many years now. I would advise you to see the movie to understand this better, or read the book by Jan Omdal “Swing of things” that describes this tension in depth. Mags even starts the film by saying that he will not go in the studio again making another album because he is afraid he will be knocking the others down in rage, that it will a tug of war, he will no go into again. You do not have to be a psychologist to see that they are not comfortable as a unit. But they are all intelligent people, intelligent enough to know that in order to make all these money, they have to be working together and pretend to like and be comfortable with it. According to the book they are never in the same room during tours, The only time they spend together is on stage. I think it is sad that it has come to this. The record company are smart enough to know that if you have a fat cow, full of milk, you will have to squeeze those nipples,until the last drop, in order to make money. In my eyes they have become puppets playing the same old songs over and over again, but as long as people love it and pay to see them, everyone is happy. They are not the first and they will not be the last. This is how this industry works. And by the way, Pål has never been comfortable in interviews. He has been uncomfortable from day one, another thing he describes in the only book so far about his career/life. The book is called “Tears from a stone” Lauren Savoy, had by far the best quote from the film. She said: they should all have therapy, first as a band and then individually. That they should be grateful for their success, embrace it. -instead of arguing and creating conflicts.

@@katyalvarado3990 Trust me they detest each other. There is a new film, called ‘a-ha The Movie’ and they spend the entire duration talking about how much they can’t stand each other. And complaining about everything under the sun, except the millions upon millions dollars they’ve all made. It really makes me very very sad. I was so excited to see the film, bought the BLU RAY, and sat down to watch my favorite band.
