Meeting Baby Brother

Bonnie, Lincoln is perfect! Love the kids reactions to their new brother! So sweet! I am a nursery/neonatal intensive care nurse. In most US hospitals, the first bath is determined by the health of the baby. If the baby is premature or having any distress, the bath could be delayed indefinitely. The baby's temperature must be stable, also. They are bathed under a warmer. Vernix, the cheesy coating on newborns, is there to protect the baby the baby from getting "water logged " while in utero. If babies are born early, they have more. Some babies are born with very little vernix on them at birth, while preemies can be covered with a thick layer on their skin. Most nurses wash the babies head at the sink with the baby blanketed on its body to keep them warm. The babies love getting their hair/head bathed and actually calm down and relax because it reminds them of the warm amniotic fluid that they were floating in while in utero. Then, a hat is put on the baby to keep it warm, and the baby is placed back under the warmer to get their body temperature back to normal. I've never heard of leaving the vernix on for the smell. Most babies have blood on them from delivery and as a precaution, we try to clean them to get any germs that may have been transferred during birth going through the birth csnal, etc. I am a mother of 4. Ages 26, 23, 20 and 16. They all had their baths under the same protocol that we use today. Sponge bathed until the cord dries and comes off later at home. Alcohol to the cord stump with each diaper change until it falls off in usually a week to 10 days. Hope some of this helped clear up some of the questions asked from some of the comments. 😄😙💕

For everyone being rude saying they feel sorry for the nurse, the pager pages the front desk. Generally someone is always sitting at the front desk to answer phones and direct your personal nurse to your room. It's not a bother to answer a page for 10 seconds and they recognize that toddlers are naughty especially around mom holding a new baby! The nurses probably found it hilarious. Congrats Bonnie and family! He's precious!

A beautiful and genuine family. I've just found your channel and love it! Our grandson is due on Wednesday January 10th'18. Brings back memories of having my three in the 80's. Two hospital births and our youngest at home and he's 34 and about to become a Daddy himself. It's cute to watch the children interacting with the baby, their siblings and their lovely parents.
