@@viejusI'm sure many people across the globe can draw a deep quality from this series, but it's true... this is a love letter to England - the countryside, the pubs, the friendships and conversations, the detectorist rivalries, the quirks of the individual characters, the feeling of liminality too. Every land has its own unique beauty and magic and I really tuned into a feeling of this being so tied to this little Isle. ❤

I adore this brilliant, inexplicably (but delightfully) self-effacing and humble man! I believe he may have invented a new art form in Detectorists, gently layered with meanings deeper than the earth they search. Yes, “kindness is a super-power,” Mr. Crook, yours and your characters’, and you show their kindness throughout along with soul, humanity, and humor, until we know and love all your characters and can’t bear their stories to end for us. Ah, but if they do end here or don’t, I say: thank you, thank you, thank you! ❤

Absolutely brilliant series! McKenzie and his team gave the world a true gift. Virtually every character in the series, no matter how annoying, or rude, or aggressive or full of bluster or "spineless" or just downright quirky, eventually showed their deeper, heart warming true selves. One of the biggest take aways for me: if we can just get past all of the surface stuff (the bluster, or whining, or arrogance....) and dig a little deeper, we're bound to find gold. Cinematically, the nature scenes often felt like poetry. One can really feel the peacefulness of being out in the countryside. As if detecting is just an excuse. But also, the timely references to detecting details really helps one to see that Andy, Lance and company are pretty zealous about the details of their hobby. Any anyone who can raise nerdiness and geekiness to an admirable level is AOK with me! "Did you see University Challenge?" ... great running gag.

Loved the subtlety and gentleness of these series. Just beautiful. Loved the way the landscape was presented and the use of Unthanks folk music to gently emphasise the rootedness in English history and folklore. I felt so deeply about this programme. Here’s where I Might draw fire - (spoiler) felt the Christmas Special in ‘22 might have jumped the shark with the Holy Grail. The beauty of the show was finding value in things and people that were ‘unremarkable’ or ‘everyday’. They all had a personal story and their own value. Walked near a ploughed field yesterday (January) and found a George VI penny. Hoped for the Andy ‘shiver’ and the hawk whistle moment - but this time a Spitfire or Lancaster overhead 😊

Absolutely love the Detectorists, you know you're getting something rural just by the theme tune, the programme is brilliantly written with all the characters complementing each other. What I really enjoy is that it's not hysterically funny but it keeps the watchers attention and has what I call the chuckle factor like when you see the running battle between Andy (Mackenzie Crook) and Lance (Toby Jones) against "Simon & Garfunkle" played by Simon Barnaby & Paul Cesar. The location where it is filmed allows the watchers to drift back to days gone by to where you can almost smell the countryside. Each episode ends leaving you with a desire to watch more. Such a shame that apart from the 2022 Christmas Special there were only 3 seasons, such a quality programme that is well worth a rewatch.

Brilliantly directed and written. The two main character’s are adorable , there are some enticingly beguiling supporting performances . Threaded with the hint of our pagan past and glimpses of the medieval . Plus guest appearances by Johnny Flynn (singer song writer of theme song ) and a fleeting glimpse of Professor Alice Roberts and Linda Lusardi . I have watched the whole of this gift three times already . Thank you Makenzie Crook .

I love Mackenzie’s interviews. Watching him I always bring to mind that scene (forgot the episode) where Lance and Andy are talking while detecting and discussing, as I remember, what constitutes a man being deemed handsome. Lance notes to Andy how thin, disheveled, and “scrawny” Andy is and remarks how a fancy “ruff” around his neck in Elizabethan times would make him quite desirable. What a treasure of a series. I just finished watching the whole series again and discovered I’d somehow missed the December 2022 movie! What a treat!
