Meeting The People Of Rural Isan Thailand - Isan Thailand Trip Ep. 4
The previous video from a local funfair in Udon Thani ➡ • I Visited A Huge Local...
I have left the city of Udon Thani to explore around the countryside. In the next days we will be exploring around rural Isan Thailand to get to know the area a bit better. I love exploring rural Thailand and I also really enjoy meeting local people. Luckily the people here in Isaan are super friendly and open. Not hard to meet people here in Isan Thailand.

I had to laugh when you tried that Thai Whisky called (what sounds like) Low Cow. I drank that with the family on their farm not far from Kancha Na Buri. I was totally drunk after a couple of glasses of it. I liken it to benzine (what you put into a motorcycle). This vlog was awesome because I love interacting with the locals, joking with them. This vlog brings back memories and what I miss most and look forward to getting back to in the near future. Thanks again for sharing.

Ken, you should try the Maprao Phao, literally coconut roasted. The coconut you bought in the shop is cooked by boiling it in boiling water. But the best taste you will get from the roasted coconut. The juice is much more tasteful. You can recognize by the fact that the coconut has some fire strains.

My wife confirms: yet they are for catching fish. As for the fire, they don't do much to control it, it burns the whole field, but it never seems to burn too far or fast. Give it a couple months and every field will be burning and the air will be terrible.

Guten Abend Herr Ken, Nice interaction with the local villagers, boat men having a drinking session of the 40% alcohol Thai rice whiskey (Lao Kao - Lao = whiskey, Kao = white). Funny, you didn't like it, but still finished it (for not wanting to be rude I guess). You got the right idea about the fish net trapping contraption! Too bad the lady didn't catch any fish. Hope you run into more Interesting stuffs! Take care! Ciao und Aufwedersehen!

Sawasdee! Those coconuts without the green shells are any kinds of coconuts boil or burn in order to make the water more sweet and keep longer and the coconut meat will be easy to peel off too. Its the creative Thai way of eating coconuts. Dont see them very often now. The fishing device is called "Yor Yok" used for catching small fish that swim on the water surface level. Its something to enjoy at the free time

The coconut you have from this video has been cooked (could be steaming because there is no burning mark on the shell), the original cooked young coconut method would be ROASTING OR BURNING which creates a nice fragrant coconut water and the fresh will be separated from the shell..so you can peel the fresh from the shell easily.

Yes you figured out the fishing nets use mostly during the rainy season however I would advise against the Thai whiskey as it contains ethanol. Try to find a rocket factory... 😁 13:30 - I bought a coconut like that in Chiang Mai once - the vendor had a bunch in a cooler with ice. He opened it for me, and when I was finished drinking he showed me how to eat the meat inside. You have to crush the shell between your hands and then scrape the insides with your finger... 😁 I think it was 15 baht too.. the cheapest coconut I'd ever had in Thailand. 20:00 - it does look pretty damp. There's standing water on the ground. When they do the Rocket Festival in May that's the start of the rainy season and right after the harvest.

The fire in the field that you have seen is used in a method called slash-and-burn farming or swidden farming (looks like a European country transferred in Asia). They burn it to release the nutrient from the soil for another crop to plant (thanks Google). It has also a fair share of disadvantage like deforestation if abused. Here in the Philippines, we call it "kainigin system or kaingin". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slash-and-burn
