I truly hate to hear that Brielle dislocated her knee again. Our girl definitely deserves all the best that she works so hard for. But, it does come with the territory. You let that sweet girl know just how much we love her and that she’s most certainly in my heart and prayers. I’m soooo proud of you Brielle!!!!!!!!!

I used to be a dancer too and ended up dislocating my knee twice and had to quit. She might want to try doing daily pt on it at home and trying to keep both strong. The one thing I wasn’t aware of was I was prone to it and so I needed to work less on flexibility and more on strengthening being hyper mobile can make it easier to come out. I hope she finds something that helps and can continue to do what she loves. I know once it dislocates the more easily it is to come out again

Also, wearing the brace anytime she can may help strengthen those tendons and ligaments. Of coarse, talk to her PT about it first. They definitely know best. Also check and see if y’all have any PT’s that specialize in working with dancers. I know they exist. And they could help her being able to continue to dance and help prevent a shortened dancing career. Love from Louisiana.

You may want to look into Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. It’s characterised by joint hyper mobility and one of the first big signs are recurring knee/joint dislocations.

I'm so sorry about her knee! She is such a beautiful dancer & positive kid. One thing I've noticed is she tends to pronate (roll in) a little, and that puts more stress on the knee. Hopefully working with a pt that specializes in dancers/athletes can help her! Best wishes to her.

My daughter did competition from age 7 thru 10th grade when her body finally put a stop to it! Now she’s 29 and you would think she’s older due to her legs, hips, etc.. Please be careful - the instructors think about winning your the mom - think of your daughters long term health!!

Im a dance teacher, i used to dislocate my knee all the time. It sucks but dont push it bc you would rather be out one competition than a whole season. Also PT and really focusing on positioning during barre and petit allegro are the parts that really helped me strengthen mine back up! Good luck with your competition season! Wishing you the best!

I hope she feels better. Definitely go get that knee checked. I had to quit dance at 10 due to dislocating knee. It still happens to me 20years later. It never got better.. my tendons got damaged due to frequent dislocations.

Don’t you think maybe you should take her to get checked out at the urgent care before dancing again? My 29 year old sister dislocated her knee today and the first thing we did was go to the hospital and get her checked out. She has to rest her knee for 10 days, no walking on it or exercising at all. Not trying to be rude or anything, I’m just curious 🥰

This isn’t their first go round with a dislocated knee. I trust that they know precisely what they need to do. Not to mention Bri would never push her too far. And Brielle knows her limits. I definitely trust them.

I have a brace that I wear to prevent my knee from dislocating. It can be gotten over the counter, and it cost me about $25. I know you probably already have something but if you want the name of it then feel free to respond and I'll let you know. Also I use this brace while I dance sometimes. And it doesn't seem to hinder me at all

So sorry about B's knee..she's growing..get a knee brace that may help her..wear it during day..off at night...ace bandage wrap will help until get brace..Dancing is a sport as well as art..so needs help from sports med physical therapy.

I'm not sure if she's been tested for it already but Brielle looks like she could have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome judging by how her joints hyperextend and the fact she's had two dislocations before adulthood, it's very possible that that's what's causing her to have recurring dislocations. I'd definitely look into it for her!

Brielle, how could you dislocate your knee???? The legs go THIGH - KNEE - CALF - FOOT. You are not a Mrs. Potato Head; your parts aren't meant to be reorganized. Leave them in the default factory settings, or you'll void the warranty on your body!!
