Good that I found this video. I'm from Germany and sadly, Mega is barely on shelfs here and if so, there are mostly sets like Pokemon etc. Halo is a rare sight and buying this stuff from ebay sellers in the US is like the fastest way to a heart attack once you see the shipping prices. I know, that's how things are - doesn't change the fact that it's annoying af. You can guess where this is going: I bought some of these online for the mentioned "reasonable price", they just arrived and the seller sent me a Ik'Navus instead of Cortana. The only difference I saw at first was the milky color of Agryna's rifle and the wrong hands on the Brute figure (4 instead of 3 fingers, but Mega does the same mistake with the Elites for years now, so what?). I came here to find a good review of the Weapon figure to reconsider if I should try to buy it again... just to notice the notorious 2382TC number on the back of all ordered packages😕 I'm not too disappointed though. I really didn't pay a fortune for them and thanks to the seller's ignorance, I have several Brute figures which I actually have use for😂😂

btw two things about Kovan you missed: the "eye" is green because her visor is in fact green (specifically the default in infinite) and her shoulder pads are also wrong, she wears the UA/Faunus shoulders normally (the Mk. VII version of Cat's shoulders)

Is it possible they are using cheaper plastics and faster cooling and heating cycles to pump them out faster, hence why they might be using the same molds but they turn out smaller due to those reasons (as if they "shrunk" after the molding process)? That would also explain why the joints are tighter, the surfaces more rough, and detail is diminished. Then again I'm an architect and have no idea about toys or plastic, hell I don't even know much about mega construx.

Great Vid - thanks for making it and thanks for leading the charge on this! So what I'm going to say is based on your work and the work of others. Im not really 'adding' anything to this, but hear me out. Many times, a lot of the processes used by scammers can be figured out after the fact. And, the efforts of the scammers to cover their tracks are proportionate to their intent to do it again. When someone gets taken in an actual scam (like a confidence scam), most of the time the victim has no idea of how it was done and possibly who even did it. Thats because they're running that scam in that area and they intend to do it again. I don't think that this is something that's going to keep happening because it was really sloppy and obvious. Keeping that in mind, let's look at the main symptoms of the Series 17 issues: printing, plastics color and amount, QC and paint application. In all of these save QC, the... counterfeiters(?) must have had access to original tooling. Western companies have been doing business with Chinese companies for a long time and the parameters on security are well established. That being said, in order to keep things moving and businesses, factories and consumers happy, the (or 'a') factory would have had to have access to a ton of lead materials in order to produce in advance of demand. Proofs or digital files for the casting, what the packaging card should look like and some sort of interpretable instructions on applying paint and printing would all be on site before production. So I'm coupling this with the fact that the materials themselves were 'off', the tolerances and paint were off, the package printing and order of packaging were off and the QC was non-existent. There would be no point to Quality Control. Also notice that the method of item numbering was copied from Series 16 - they didn't know that it would be changed for the next series. This shows that they had access to original factory equipment (probably in the factory), but it also shows how the parent corporation will switch things up at the last minute, which I believe is a mechanism for authenticity. Again, you wouldn't want to use batch plastics that were accounted for for an unsanctioned production run, but you could use surplus or recycled 'other stuff and that could account for the cheaper materials and lack of printing on the models. Now look at the circumstances - Mega Halo is some of the most sought-after merch, post Covid-19 Mattel is anxious to get a-sellin' and there are more avenues to move goods from factory to purchaser than ever before. Also, China is one of the places in the world where the attitude of the people and the letter of the law do not coincide with what Western consumers envision when they think of what's "authentic". Last, I'll add that since Mattel has started moving to an internal, web based sales model, how much longer would those who wanted to pull this off have had to do it? Probably not long. So finally, with Series 16 trickling out like cold Canadian maple syrup, with plastic loving Halo enthusiasts clearing the shelves of boxes, blind bags and blister packs as fast as Wally-World can stock them, and while we were all distracted by Chinese Spy Ballon 2023, they finally did it! And we can only stand agape and mutter, "Series 17 is a lie." Also, I would really like a t-shirt that actually says that. But seriously, we would in no way be the first to be betrayed by counterfeiters from that region in the world. I'm sure if Mattel gets hit hard enough, things will tighten up. We'll all remember this with some little irritation in the years ahead, and life goes on.

I got mine and the seller on EBay showed me proof he got them from a factory in china and the certain batch number 2382TC was sold buy the factory workers straight to EBay sellers. My Red Spartan leg and arm falls off a little bit and the brutes gun feels very plastic compared to anything else same with his armor. Spartan Kovan arrived for me today, the torso is so warped it won't even fit to the hips; The size discrepancy to a normal Gungnir spartan is what sets the most red flags, to me that's a sign that these were illegal recasts rather than just QC issues. Whoever was producing these had direct access to the original tooling and packaging though, which is pretty concerning. I'm going to run the serial numbers past Mega later and see if they can help, if not Ebay should cover me because these are way past simple defects.

While I’m not fan of possibly buying fakes with terrible quality, I am also glad that there are molds out there to produce more, because infinite is not in a good state after a year and if they keep messing up there’s always the possibility Microsoft stops the franchise for some years and then we get no mega sets to mess with and they could prob even lose the rights to halo construction sets So fakes and 3d printing leaves some hope as last resort for a worst case scenerio

That is a great question. The answer can actually be found by looking at the figures. The smaller size, odd plastic grain and rough edges indicate that they used cheaper plastic. If what I've found is true, the factory that Mega hired to make Series 17 used Mega's molds off the clock with cheaper plastic. That means they had to spend very little, as the mold was there and ready for use and their materials were cheap. Then, they sell the figures for $10 each which makes them actually a lot of money. Take into account too that this is in China where our currency is a higher value than theirs.
