Like deleting the archive website, rarely selling the new sets on their new website, Barely releasing new sets and always at low quantities, Discontinuing the other lines like Call of duty and not renewing their liceneses for the themes. They have a perfectly good site to advertise drops and they don't even use it. Another thing they should do is make sets that are attractive to buy multiple times. Ive been a Halo Mega fan for almost as long as the series has existed, and just today I decided to look at JangBrick's old video on the OG phantom, and something about him talking about concerns over the set possibly no longer being produced after being on the shelf for YEARS was really interesting to me. The best time in Halo Mega was when sets had a long shelf lives and where wildly abundant, which also happened to be a time where Toys R Us existed and Amazon wasn't the king of everything. I can't tell if Modern Mega is failing to achieve that level of quality and quantity because of poor management, or because of how much our world has changed. Maybe its both. Either way its hard to feel like the best years aren't over, and we'll simply never get sets like the Battlescapes or those halo mega store displays again. I think at this rate just seeing any halo sets on the shelves would be amazing. I get excited when I see even one heros set or blind bag every half a year or so because they're that rare today. Hopefully themes like Fallout might end up on store shelves, and perhaps eventually encourage stores to bring in other Mega sets besides Pokemon, but only time can tell.

@@headcrabking9054 fair enough. I certainly have no concrete evidence, but since such speculation is so much fun... Lego's hypothetical involvement may post date 2014, when Mattel acquired Mega. The Hotwheels sets are clearly aimed at collectors. And Pokemon in a wierd IP in general, maybe they are content to let it run its course. In any case, I would say the sets on shelves are evidence that they are NOT doing particularly well. Every time I bring my kid to the store, we don't see new Pokeman and Hotswheels, but the same dusty boxes that have been there for months. Be that as it may, yes, perhaps we are just witnessing the way of all things, with nothing in particular to blame, but it sure strains credulity to think of Mattel CEOs and brand managers treating Mega the way the have, simply because they are inept. It sure SEEMS like the transformation of Mega from a kid's brand to a "collector" brand driven by artificial scarcity is a deliberate act.
@headcrabking90542 ай бұрын
@@ericb9804 hmm, at the very least I'd say it's an interesting conspiracy theory (as in there's an actual conspiracy, not as an insult). I think to some extent Lego would kill to have the Pokemon IP, so I'm not sure if they'd simply let Mattel get it, even for the sake of faking success. Stuff like Fallout however would absolutely be something Lego couldn't use, is also big enough that Microsoft would want to work with a known brand, like Mattel, even if their numbers are sub-par. Maybe that's also why we had those "Heros" figs of popular IPs. People would kill for sets of X files, God of War, Futurama, Alien, Predator, etc but Mega only made a handful of figures for most of them, and none got a very long run of sets, so it feels like they're sitting on these big IPs while doing nothing with them! This combined with the figures rarity leaves collectors opting to just make custom Lego figures through sites like Bricklink (which Lego happens to own) I don't believe any of that necessary, but I agree, theorizing is fun!
@ericb98042 ай бұрын
@@headcrabking9054 Indeed it is - Lego has cash to burn, an axe to grind, and a history of shady anti-competition practices. But speculating on their involvement is definitely tin-foil hat type stuff. But I do think its clear that Mattel has deliberately transformed Mega into a "collector brand" that (outside of Pokemon) doesn't even bother trying to appeal to actual kids, which, to me, is what's really unfortunate here, regardless of what caused it.

Have only just came back into the community in early 2024. Stopped in around 2016 or so. Most of my older sets and figures are gone, but I slowly started to pick up sets when I can. As I was coming back into the community, I was checking out some of Simon's videos and noticed a few videos about the state of MEGA and how it was in decline when it came to Halo. This put me in a damper mood, feeling that coming back was not the right choice, and that the line would eventually be discontinued. Decided to drive out to some local stores to see what the stock on Halo MEGA looked like and could not find a single thing. Come July 8th of this year, I decided to check out my Meijer (note, this was my birthday), and to my surprise, blow and behold, MEGA Halo on shelves! Just a few of the TV show sets, but also the newest blind bags and a couple older sets like the Hornet along with some Halo Heros. This really made my day better, and my girlfriend decided to pick some up for me! (the haul is somewhere in Simon's server). Seeing those sets in person, after not seeing MEGA in stores since around 2016-2017 after I dropped it, actually kind of made me cry, especially after learning so much more about the state of this community. When I heard about the Arctic Wasp, Halo 2 pack, and the Oracle, I was so damn hyped, feeling that MEGA was getting back on its feet. However, here we are now, with not much communication, possible cancelled sets (those base sets are SO DAMN nice!), and really just a fading brand, I really hope this theme can get back on its feet once more, as I really want to be a part of this community once again and leave my mark.

It feels like Mega is just becoming this niche brick line part of Mattel. They deleted the archive, have let the scalping go on unchecked or challenged, and just not caring about us. I was shocked to see how few lines they have anymore - halo, Pokémon, He-man, and misc. Fomo buying has definitely become a necessity to be in this hobby anymore. Yes, halo as a brand has fallen harder than the master chiefs landing in halo 3. But there's plenty of sets that Mega could be doing, those modular bases are a perfect concept. It feels like the writing has been on the walls for years now, they've just let things deteriorate. I recently purchased a used Assault on Highground set since nothing has come up about those base sets. Putting that set together brought back a TON of fond nostalgic memories, back to when things were awesome. And to look at where we are now...honesty with the likelihood those base sets are canceled I could walk away from giving a f about Mega, its certainty feels they don't care about us. In saying that, I feel like our best and healthiest course of action is to put Mega in the back of our minds. Maybe look to see if anything is on sale or available that strikes our fancy. But overall, we focus on acquiring old sets that Mega Blocks did. Looking back at sets from halo and Call of Duty to bolster our collections and building custom creations. I've been looking at getting some of the old Battlescape sets, the "desert" one in particular looks PERFECT for a Flood infected area. And then there's model making, like what Matty Crafts does, anything to fill the void that we're all in and keeping the hobby alive.

Halo 2 anniversary, fallout power armor and red rocket, all just randomly appeared on Amazon/target for preorder and only got attention from mega after the fact. I’d prefer if they built up hype and announced preorders/releases ahead of time. But to play devils advocate, I think not announcing it gives some people a better chance to get it in a backwards way. especially for the fallout sets. Fallout fans kill preorders with everything Bethesda releases, so making it random stops fallout fans from ordering 10 of each and making it sell out faster, but I know it leaves people out who aren’t on social media 24/7

This was a great video, Zee. Very measured takes which I think are accurate to the situation we are in currently. I think your point about no communicating from MEGA is particularly important, as is a large contributing factor to why I left the community. There was a period of time where MEGA genuinely felt invested in the community. I know for me getting to interview people like Kevin for Builds with Blocks was a huge highlight. I loved how they shared their passion with us, and also loved how they were willing to give us a sense for where the line was going. Unfortunately, when that connectivity started to fade, I think my passion faded with it. I really think MEGA could be working better with their community and leveraging the people who support this brand. You’re right that there have been lots of licenses which could have seen more success in MEGA with some additional community engagement and support. The products are phenomenal and always have been - but it’s the community that helps to get them out there. I really hope MEGA can turn this around. I’d love to come back and make content again one day, but right now, the lack of investment I feel in us is putting me off investing in them. The other thing that frustrates me is the hubris this company has when it ignores what people want. Look at the falcon sweep. Look at the release of Halo 2 pack. Stuff like that sells and sells well, but they don't seem to care. At this point if they were to do something like end the Halo line or shut down Mega or something else like that, I would rather they just rip the band aid off. Just pull the plug rather keep it on life support. At least we would know where we stand. Compared to others I have only recently joined the community, but what I love about it is the amazing people I have met because of these toys. It also lets me hold on to part of my youth as I get older.

It really feels like Mega is just doing whatever they want rather than what we the fans want. They would have been printing money if they just did some H3 Marine fireteam set and more Halo Universe sets but instead, they are doubling down on Hot Wheels despite the fact no one is buying those sets. That is what makes me the most frustrated with Mega. There is so many things Mega needs to improve on but the biggest thing is the products themselves or lack there of for Halo. They also need to do more smarter ips. Like why not do Helldivers 2 sets instead of Beatles and Squid Game?

I don't know if the management of Mega switched to people who don't care, maybe it's on Mattel, not sure. I look at old stuff like the Pyrates line and others, and I'm blown away by the scope of the sets. I'm glad to see Pokémon and Hot Wheels in stores, least it shows Mega still has some life yet. I remember Halo Infinite got me so excited. It was the dawn of a new era for Halo and Mega, I was excited, I bought a bunch of the playsets, 2 Pelicans, 2 Banshees, 2 Skiffs, several each of the Warthog and Recon Getaway, 1 AA Gun, then a bunch of the smaller things. Infinite came out and it was an unfinished mess, they have improved it but its too late and just isn't fun for me. Then if course Mega was strong for a couple years but money got really tight. Then now it just feels like Mega is abandoning Halo. I love Halo, grew up with it in my teenage years, and it just feels like Halo has been throughly disrespected. Last new thing I bought was the 20th anniversary set, last mega thing is an old magnetic spartan. I'd love to give them money but it feels like they're abandoning us. I love the exspansion to Fallout and TES is they're new themes, I love both, however I don't know if I have faith in Mega.

i don't like to say it, but it really seems like mega just doesn't give a crap about the community, especially this year. leaks are the only way we find out about sets. we never know when sets plan to release. there's no communication. they still do usually make good sets when they do make them, but like everything else about the brand is frustrating or just disappointing. they certainly had more communication last year, like collaborations with creators to reveal sets, and fan votes for a figure and a set, but i'm pretty sure there was nothing like that this year. also, i found the video you mentioned at 8:26. it was hilarious. "master chef." "halo infinity." they really did just pick some random guy to reveal it.
@Sergeant.hendrix2 ай бұрын
I want the mega halo line to continue so badly but changes need to happen sets need to stop being cancelled after being leaked because those leaks build hype and they need to hype up the release of sets and advertise them on tv again halo is not dead and hopefully with 343 rebranding to halo studios that means mega will also be doing things differently and putting out more sets for halo distribution in other countries needs to improve its ok here in Canada Atleast with 3-4 sets like the hornet is everywhere along with the banshee and mongoose but I’d like to see more halo sets and less Pokémon on store shelves as it’s always fully stocked and I never see it selling

Mega keeps trying to branch out to new one off themes because they're hoping something new will stick since, and I hate to say it, Halo is not popular right now in the mainstream. Yes, existing fans will buy new Halo Mega stuff, but with the Halo IP as a whole not being mainstream whatsoever with newer gamers and toy collectors, I'm betting Mattel/Mega is just worried about brand stagnation if all they do is make Mega sets for a game series that was at its prime fifteen years ago.

I think communication, consistency, and working towards stuff that made this company so popular would help the most. Halo, Call of Duty, etc. Doing those and sure they can branch out if theyd like BUT ONLY as long as the main focus is the main lines that have been wanted by the fans that brought them through the years. That way everyone is happy, make all of the main line stuff go to stores like Walmart, Fred Meyers, Target, etc. You know I'd also would love for them to bring back exclusives to different stores, i loved that. It encouraged us all to get different things from different stores and we were all excited. For exmaple the Blue banshee and blue rocket hog or things like the glow in the dark series stuff that was exclusive to Target. Or stuff like when they had Toys R Us exclusives such as the ODST pelican, granted the Toys R Us for certain countries would have to be something else. But I hope anyone reaidng this understands what I mean. I love this community and I want it to grow. I've been collecting Halo mega for years and years now, ever since they first started.

I’m thankful for having mega, and the halo line lasting as long as it has. However how they handled the release of the falcon sweep deeply frustrated me. I never got to have my hands on it. I never see the halo mega near my target anymore except for Pokémon. I don’t understand why mega doesn’t just sell halo heroes online and blind bags or bundles because getting it through 3rd party scalpers who love to charge awful prices is not fun. I love halo and I love the halo line and like you said the figures are what makes this line unique as well as the personality of the sets. It’s just frustrating that there is demand from the community and we want to give mega money..(especially for that falcon that was so botched for release) yet all we get is silence essentially.

Great Video, i wanted to make not only about Mega but about Mattel. If you look a lot of the problems Mega recently has, have Mattel for years if not decades already. I live in Germany and you just cant really buy MEGA Sets here locally in stores. Big toy shops like Smythtoys (was TrU before) only have Pokemon and sometimes one set from some other Mega line. They had Masters and Hot Wheels a few years back but now they only sell Pokemon. Same is seen in other local stores, Pokemon but everything else is left behind. Best bet is look online. Even there we dont get all here. Halo? Maybe a few sets on Amazon otherwise nope. Even we did not get the signgle figures from Masters. A Lot Wonder Builders Hot Wheels we did not get and same goes for the bigger line now named showcase. Distribution is a huge issue and you relay on importing. But thats a known problem Mattel has for years, you cant find the Mattel products in every store that has Mattel products. So Mattel always starts to sell that stuff online only, like they already did again with Mattel Creations. There where so many online shops from Mattel before, its always the same. The next point is overpriced sets. Take the witcher set, it had a retailprice of 170€ here from Mattel. Its no wonder no one bought it here and even in the US it was 120$ if i remember right. Winterfell from GoT was cheaper and had more to offer. They wanted 80€ for Drogon here while i could already buy it reduced at 30$ in the US. The stuff is so overpriced, no one buys and if you wait a few weeks or months the sets get reduced so now the witcher set goes for 50€ instead of 170€. Sure thing people learn and adopt, so no one will buy at release and buy later reduced. Small merchands say, Mattel charges them at such a high price tag, its often cheaper to buy the sets from amazon then from Mattel directly. This means small shops wont have MEGA sets, because they will only loose money, because of the high costs from Mattel and the reduced prices a short while after. They only can meak money with warehouse ceanings from mattel, they Mattel sells for very low prices to have Mattels warehouse cleared up. Service is down to nothing, part ordering service brought down for a year or more now. If you have missing or defective parts, bad luck. maybe send it back. A lot ppl releay on importing and cant send stuff back. Deleting old MEGA Websites like Mega Blocks and Construx, now unboxed and forums only shows MEGA/Mattel does not care for the community or customers. All the history is gone and furthermore they deleted the instruction sites from Mega all servers down and deleted. You can find some at the Mattel service site, but if you look at it a lot old stuff is missing and a lot new stuff does not work, dead links or missing data. Contacting Mattel about all this stuff does nothing, they dont care at all. I dont even have an achive to look what was and is released now at any of the Mattel sites. I think the main factor in all this is Mattel. They are to blame, because i think, they took over recently and everything just goes more worse. For me, im out. I just wont buy more MEGA anymore. Sure i like the figures and stuff they do, but there is zero customer care and im not willing to pay double or tripple the costs to get a set i want or dont even get it at all. Sad to see but i think Mattel slowly kills MEGA, with all thouse stupid stuff they do.

As a Mega collector, I completely feel everyone's pain. I only got into collecting two-ish years ago, but I still felt like a lot was off as of late. The company itself doesn't seem to be communicating with us anymore and distribution is at an all time low, and their own archive got deleted which hasn't helped the community's morale either. Also, the fact that they haven't licensed more lines really doesn't help. I love Halo as much as the next guy does, but maybe if they decided to work on a Warhammer, or Helldivers line for example it'd get more popular again? Honestly there's a lot of stuff going on right now with the company, and I really do hope they manage to pull through somehow.. because as it stands it's a sinking ship. Mega has to do something.

Whats up boss! Firstly, congrats on the wedding! Secondly, I'm fairly active in your comment section here. I feel like throwing my two cents in the ring (lol, ring). Im also fed up. Ive spent the last decade criticizing 343, and the last few years, Mega. i don't get it. I don't get how in the modern world a company can survive without, or justify not having a strong social media presence. We don;t get updates. I rely entirely on the community, folks like you and Simon, to relay news... AND YOU AREN;T TOLD ANYTHING EITHER. It's silly. I also cannot understand how the company stays alive with its failure of distribution... I guess the handful of random shoppers who buy the Pokemon sets must keep them a float. It's my understanding that most of the MEGA COMMUNITY isn't interested in the line... So it has to be that big of a sale difference, after all, I have only seen 4 different options of Halo sets in stores for the last couple years... If the shelves even have a section for it. I thought when Simon became an ebassador things were improving. I don't see any change. This is NOT a criticism of Simon, it's MEGA. He went out to them, and apparently he saw some really cool stuff he can't disclose... but we still have not heard word. From anyone. Can MEGA not make a consistant admin/poster to their own official platforms? Can they not find a volunteer for it? Heck, Ill do it. All i ask is for accessibility to sets in return. (but that may be a harder sale than a salary...) MEGA has lost money on me as I returned to the hobby... and my collection has expanded MONSTEROUSLY. How and why? 85% of my collection I bought from second hand providers or resale... Had MEGA kept their product available, they would have made money from me, and everyone else in my situation. How come there is not an OFFICIAL website available to purchase and ship from them directly? How can they afford these brand liscences and production yet not have this option? Rapid fire gripes: I like the Heroes line: I think its a great way to get unique figures from various properties without having to make full set releases: Like you said, why not pokemon trainers? Id buy that honestly. I mentioned a Helldivers figure/release in previous comments. I think a real loss came when Lego got the Fortnite property... I don't care about Fortnite at all, but if only Mega could have that property... I would have atleast bought the figures on ocassion. Im sure they could have made amazing sets. And that property would get passive sales like from the Pokemon line from people who want it for the property, not just the MEGA Fanbase. Closing notes: There is, undeniably, something WRONG at MEGA. There are clearly issues and failures happening there, otherwise, the entire above message wouldn't matter. But it does. I believe this community cares enough about this line, that if MEGA would just come forward, explain the issues, let the community respond and support, we could over come it. Until then, MEGA, like my beloved Halo, is dying infront of me. What would I like to see from the community? MEGA needs to treat their company like any other which relies on a dedicated FANBASE. They need social media presence. They need communication channels. They need to listen. They need to make changes. They need US to help. I'd dare to say, the two best Halo releases lately were the Floodgate and the Falcon... The flood gate was a community fan vote winner, and the Falcon immediately sold out, and THE FANS had to petition for more production... This is silly. Like i said... even I, a generic nobody, but someone who just CARES, is willing to do it... So why isn't it happening? The saddest thing is, nothing will change, until mega decides to.

There’s always a trail when shit hits the fan. Go look at the trail before things happened. It started with their lack of communication through social media, pictures, videos, branding, Etc… Than COD getting discontinued along with archives for COD going down. Halo archives soon followed and now you don’t even seen halo on the front page of Mattel creations, even in the legend area. You have to search for halo manually. Toys R Us only has out of stock items that have been on the site forever along with the majority of Walmarts online sets, they have a few still in stock that are older, along with paramount series halo mega. The shit hitting the fan was them going from many sets in 2022 and a good amount in 2023 to this year only having the arctic wasp and the H2 Character pack set, one of which is the only available set on Mattel creations… Which is the Arctic Wasp set. The H2 character pack I believe was their wave goodbye to the cult fan base for halo. They’re focusing on the younger age licensed and original Mattel sets, along with other licenses that don’t affect Lego. Since legos hit them hard being intimidated by the success of COD and Halo Mega. They don’t allow Mega to sell much in stores only a certain amount of shelf space and mega usually gets the back corner of the toy section for Pokémon and Halo. I have many other things I’ve thought of that contributed to where we are with Mega Halo currently, but I could go on and on to the point where this would be long asf. I believe we’ll get 1 set maybe even none next year. They’re afraid of outright saying goodbye to Halo because of backlash, so they’re doing it in a way where they’re putting our community down silently. Which is by giving hints and less and less sets and imagery of halo mega over the course of this last year. Eventually you will see it disappear just like COD. They knew COD was easier to let go of because what really pushed mega bloks was Halo. This community is unlike any other. I’ve been collecting since 2009, I’m a major halo fan and have watched mega bloks halo grow from the start. Was there and angry building the shitty molds in 09, seeing them develop after that year to beautiful legendary regarded sets, to the articulation change in 14. Seen it go from three brand names. I care about it a lot and am not ready to say goodbye myself, but I’m not delusional and in-denial either and see what’s going. Kind of accepting the trajectory and life line of Halo with Mattel and Mega at this point. Hopefully all of what I’m saying won’t age well and things will turn around and I’ll be able to come back to this and laugh as people say I was 1000% wrong.

@@Mythic0117 My point is, I'm pretty sure they WOULD do that if they weren't struggling. The Elephant was a good example of a nearly 1:1 remake

@@DemarcationMedia I'd imagine that remaking old sets with better figures aswell would help out with the money problem, and if they can't afford a large ish set, then they could make several small but army build able sets that would be worth buying several of

The Beatles thing looked good, but it was 80 bucks and not really worth the price. I was left asking "Why?" as I went to the Lego aisle and picked up another space set. Where was the demographics for this set? My mother who was a Beatles fan would be in her 70s. Hopefully, the venture with Hasbro puts out some GIJoe sets. Still shocked though how bad Mega is doing.

Mattel is up for sale, why they axe odd things, and boost portfolio with a large range of IPs. The factory moves out of China to India.

Ehhh I don't think that's the same factory. Seems that factory already closed, but Mega is still being produced in China.

I’m brand new in this fandom as I’ve always been Lego purest, but as of late they haven’t put out too many good things either. So I got into the figures and now I can’t get any because they’re too expensive on resale and the company won’t make more

I think Mega has really dropped the ball on us, but I think there is good reason for it. 343 and their bad decisions have really hurt the Halo brand, so of course that'd trickle down to stuff like Mega and whatnot. But I still really like the sets they're coming up with and do want them to make mocs and have fun. Funnily enough, I've been playing a lot of state of decay 2 lately and would really like to see a couple sod2 mega sets. I'd buy those up quick, haha. Thanks for the update, hopefully Halo as a brand will get back to some sort of relevancy.

It definitely is tied to how poorly Halo has been doing lately

So is there genuinely not going to be any sets for the rest of the year? because that’s what it seems like.

Do you wanna know what’s the worst part of the situation? Most of their battle packs are getting real expensive nowadays. And not to mention, I’ve been seeing a lot of Pokémon products from mega blocks in stores, which is really annoying

They don’t have a parts replacement system like Lego, the clip pieces always snap and I need new ones.

They used to have a better system, but then people started using it to get free stuff and lying, so they shut it down
