Besides Altered Beast that came with my Megadrive,this was the first game I got for my Megadrive that christmas back in 1989 when I got the Megadrive and this was an awesome and very playable game with great graphics and music and to this day it still remains one of the best playing games for the Megadrive and I still have it along with my original Megadrive and the other 53 games I managed to get while the Megadrive was on the market. I could finish this game using only 1 life back then. I remember it felt so advanced compared to the Master system games I had before the Megadrive came out.

This is the sequel to Spellcaster from the Sega Master System.
@Bloodreign14 жыл бұрын
Jo H, It is indeed a sequel to Spellcaster. In Japan this game has a 2 after the name, Kujaku Ou 2: Geneijou. Kujaku Ō is the Japanese name of Spellcaster on the SMS, do some research next time.
@Bloodreign17 ай бұрын
@@donutsama285I've seen plenty of sites over the years call it a sequel. May not be canon in story, but is STILL a sequel to Spellcaster from the SMS. I didn't say anything about the story genius, just that it is considered a sequel as a game. Next time, read better, get glasses if it helps.
@donutsama2857 ай бұрын
@@Bloodreign1 Oh so your source is "plenty of sites" lol. I guess you didn't go to school so let me explain : a sequel is a continuation of the story of a previous work. So no, not a sequel to the first game. Just because you decide to change the definition of a word doesn't make it factual. It's like saying dmc is a sequel to dmc 4, or Saint's Row is the sequel to Saint's Row 4 because it came after, lol. Don't change the meaning of a word because you're salty somone pointed out your mistake... Kujaku Ou is an obscure series so no wonder most people didn't know this game wasn't a sequel, which is fine. However taking other people's word for granted and treating it as some actual source, and then being hurt because someone pointed out a mistake, damn you're immature for someone who call others "genius". 🙄

I always wondered what was up with that crumbling crucifix at the end of level five... Oh well, the soundtrack still rocks the house and the graphics still look great to this day, especially level four. I used to think of this game as Sega's answer to Alpha/SNK's Magician Lord (until I learned that it was a converted-over title originally based on an anime), and I hoped for a sequel to this under-rated gem for a long time. Thanks for the upload! Good times and good memories! :)

The only part that was truly difficult was the "lava" stage - although it gets much easier when you do smaller "hops" by tapping the button on small or descending jumps rather than trying to aim big jumps. I seem to remember there also being a way to take a hit where you would not necessarily fall off but I may be wrong on that point.

Man I could never beat this game as a kid, I think I made it to the boss of level 7 about 5 times and I always became overcome with nerves and was killed. It’s a bit disappointing the level 8 design was a short copy and paste of level 7. Level 4 was really tough as well and always sucked a life or two off me. It’s crazy seeing this game beat in 30 minutes. I swear I probably put 4 or 5 years into this game off and on and I never saw the final boss where I’ll put over 100 hours into a Souls or Sekiro or Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age Origins and when I look back on it I feel like Mystic Defender was the longer game.

A rather lackluster sequel to the 1988 SMS classic Spellcaster in the sense that it lacked the puzzle-solving elements and plot-twisting storyline that made the first one such a revelation for its time. Plus the sound should've been a major upgrade due to the 16-bit hardware the Genesis/MegaDrive had compared to the 8-bit SMS, but the game developers REALLY dropped the ball in that area. They probably should've waited a couple more years before hammering out a proper Spellcaster follow-up because it would've truly been worth it! >:-)

It's unfortunate that even Sega themselves generally couldn't program sound very well on their own machine during the systems early years (1988-1989). It wasn't until at least 1991 until Sega's games started sounding great and more accurately represented the Yamaha's ability...Bio Hazard Battle, Ranger X, Sonic, Shinobi 3, Ristar, Phantasy Star IV, (tho even that had some stinkers)

I liked using the "Starburst" attack for it (the only time I used it the whole game). Just duck and fire 50 times from the rearmost point. You don't get hit as long as you have a few of those red things to speed up your casting. I'd usually have a bunch of the Dragon spells saved up so maybe 46 shots then finish with those...

This game is such hot fucking garbage. -Mediocre Designs -Terrible & Repetitive Sound FX -Generic & Repetitive Music -Atrocious momentum -Terrible Charge Mechanics -Cheap 1 hit stage hazard deaths -Artificial difficulty due to unbalanced,lazy,and downright mean spirited stage designs. This game could have been a forgettable yet decent action/platformer had the difficulty not been so high up there, which only exists because of its aforementioned "mean spirited" stage designs where you take a leap of faith, bump into something, fall in a 1 hit stage hazard and die. Shinobi takes this same concept and does it right, play that if you want a game similar to this one but not bogged down with all the nonsense.
