I got this game in 1996 and of course it was way too hard for a 6 y.o. kid. But just hard enough for my dad: he played all night and I spectated and enjoyed the music. It was around 8 am when he beat the game and I missed the last part because of the bed time. So next day he couldn't stop describing the last stages and bosses to me - like we were buddies of same age:)

It's a game that I have heard about from the early days of the Mega Drive and was only ever available as a grey important in the 90s, which raises the question, *Why wasn't this included on any of the official Sega minis?* Would have been a better fit than some of those games that popped up on the minis such as the flat 2D Virtua Fighter game.

An almost mythical import game that every one from the early days of the Mega Drive and the 90s grey import scene had heard of but few kids actually got to play. Which raises the question, *Why wasn't this included on any of the 2 official Sega minis?* Would have been a far better fit than some of those games that did make it on the minis.

this is an...odd port. the new stages are nice, but they're a pretty transparent cover for the fact that they apparantly couldn't implement the arcade version's combining bosses. a little lackluster in the graphics and sound department vs. the AC version.

Didn't know this was an arcade game first, so don't know arcade's music, but the music on this is pretty great. Why do games like this that have been around since the early days of the Mega Drive not been included on any of the Sega minis? @@bigbabatunde1218 Would be up to Bandai Namco (a union I still don't like, wish Namco had been able to sustain on their own due to their rich history), my guess is they didn't want this port on them. But did any Namco games make it to the Mini? Maybe stuff like Burning Force, though these days Marvel Land won't be released in the US (the recent Arcade Archives stayed in Japan due to that meh comic book company in the US).

I very much loved watching this! I'm actually just now starting to get into this game and shoot em' ups in general. I do have a question for anyone that may want to pass some knowledge onto another. It's a newb question also. What is the story with the "S", "P" and "O" power ups? I couldn't help but notice later in the game you avoided picking up the "S" power ups and I was just curious. Currently I can only get past the first three stages without getting hit. It's been crazy fun trying to get better at this!
@BenGmanUk4 жыл бұрын
S is speed. P is weapon power up and O is the options that rotate around your ship. He probably avoided S as you move v quickly once fully powered up with S.

a long story... when the NES took the american game market by storm, Nintendo executed very wild policies on third parties. Censoring contents on some titles, a long period of exclusivity on the NES and a limit of published games by year; the later to prevent any saturation of bad games, (a little bit ironic because LJN was kinda one of the analyzable companies) sure it worked... in a short term, however at long term, nintendo was inquired by unfair bussines practices. In the SNES, Nintendo relieved said practices but by the time they did those changes, it was too late, while many companies stayed with nintendo, some others like Namco were upset about these practices. Namco was pioneer, and because of this, had some special privileges, but it could also have been a case close to favoritism, the point is that when Namco's deal with Nintendo ended, Hiroshi Yamauchi announced that it was going to be treated like the rest of the companies and, obviously, NIntendo treated it as such and all the others equally. Masaya Nakamura panned Nintendo's behavior, so much that instead, he would support SEGA's mega-drive/genesis later, which eventually, said console received most of the better productions that namco developed for the home market in the 16-bit era. Leaving the SNES with very few Namco games. And this is most likely the story of why dangerous seed was a japan exclusive game.

The best way to play these is on an original Model 1 of the MD, the Model 3 mangles sound beyond belief. On a Model 1, the sound is proper. Not to mention the Model 3 is incompatible with some MD games, as well as some Genesis games.

The music wasn't scored by him, nor do I find any evidence that other composers (the game had at least 4 of them) used his sound drivers. This game used a sound driver that quite a few other Japanese games used, called SMPS Z80.

While no Dragon Spirit, or Dragon Saber, it is still a good shoot em up from Namco, but a copy of the MD version sells for far too much money these days. I'd love to have it, but at the current rate of prices for it, that isn't happening.

Namco loved bug themed shooters, like the Galaga/Galaxian series, or the Cosmo Gang the Video shoot em up. Galaga Arrangement from arcades (and PS2) really showed off the true threat you faced, with several bug themed enemies you had to shoot down.
