IMO the Saturn was Sega's best console, lots of great Japanese software was made for it, including some games that were at, or near arcade perfect.

I agree. It's also on SNES & both versions of this particular Imagineering game are of surprisingly good quality compared to the NES game. I consider this game to be kinda good. Not really great per se, but definitely better than a more bog-standard platformer like Greendog: The Beach Surfer Dude(even if that game has a mostly great soundtrack). This is more in the line of stuff like Normy's Beach Babe-O-Rama, where one can easily tell that the programmers put in actual effort into it, having moments & interesting oddities that make them stand out from the others.

I have to ask why Absolute Entertainment published the Genesis version instead of THQ since they were the ones releasing games based on this beloved 1960s cartoon on the NES, SNES & Gameboy. I mean, I know Imagineering was Absolute's development house, but still though it really strikes me as odd. I guess THQ didn't plan on putting it on a Sega console so Absolute Entertainment had to step up & have Imagineering port it to the Sega Genesis? I mean, heck, it's weird knowing that legendary Atari 2600 programmers would eventually go on to make this game at all, especially considering how meh this game ended up being. There was potential here & the music is mostly tolerable. Plus, the cutscenes with the text were funny & the controls weren't bad. Sadly though, the actual gameplay & level design are little bit of something to be desired about. That said though, it is certainly better than the NES & Gameboy games because those ones sucked. Crappy level design all over the place, slow controls, & in the case of the NES version, REALLY BAD MUSIC.

It's weird knowing that Atari went from the unquestioned industry titan to a laughingstock in such a short order, not surprised this would come from their programmers.

There were probably contracts they had to sign saying they could only publish so many games a year, and found a loophole in publishing through different companies.

@@bluepikachu500 Thing is, THQ only published a few games throughout the Genesis' lifespan. About 11 games; this game was released on the SNES in 1994, a year that THQ DIDN'T release any Sega Genesis games. The most likely scenario here was that THQ had no plans on making an SNES version, but Absolute Entertainment, knowing that the game's developer, Imagineering, was their in-house studio, decided to get the license to produce Rocky and Bullwinkle games on Sega systems & thus it led to this version.
