One of the main reasons I adore Protoman as a character concept is the fact that he's unbound through and through. He isn't evil or good, just a man on his own road to freedom who cares about his little brother. He knows that his design is flawed, he knows he's going to go up in flames eventually, but he would never ever trade his mortality away in exchange for being a different person. He's so afraid of the idea that the real Protoman deep down within him will be erased by Dr. Light if he's fixed by him, so he goes on knowing that his temporary life is his and his alone - even if he might blow up. It's tragic in a sense. Protoman is a prototype of the Sniper Joe series that would later continue to be mass produced and used for evil more often than not. It's a reality that Protoman wants to avoid, knowing that being "functional" and "fixed" means he might have to take the risk of turning into something he isn't, a tool for someone else with no free will of his own. Protoman is iconic as a symbol of robot freedom within the Megaman Universe. Megaman is the protector of mankind, Bass is the competitive destroyer that wants to stand atop the mountain, and Protoman is the blues of freedom. Dr. Light failed Protoman, and at the same time he succeeded. He created a robot capable of living unbound and free. Unfortunately, Protoman is so free that he won't let anyone tamper with him anymore, not even Dr. Light.

Id say protoman is the prototype not only of Robot masters but also reploids. The freest robot ever made even if programming and his own core still binds him to an extant.

The song of an artificial life form, the first of its kind - one that has emotions. But what kind of sick world is it when you're told you're going to die soon? You just came into existence. Is that all there is? Here today and gone tomorrow? There has to be more to life, and this song reminds us of Protoman's wanders and wonders, as he decides to do the things that make him happy in his last moments; be it rivaling with his "perfected model," or helping humans.

You know, I don’t really understand why Dr. Light felt the need to build X as “a robot that can make decisions for himself.” Proto Man was making decisions for himself since the beginning. He chose to run away a and live his own life because he thought that Dr. Light wouldn’t allow him to be himself. The idea that X was not “bound by Asimov’s laws of robotics like Mega Man” doesn’t make sense either. Mega Man made the choice to become a super fighting robot on his own without prompting, despite the fact that it meant he would be putting himself in danger and pitting himself against a human (Dr. Wily). When he doesn’t go through with killing Dr. Wily in Mega Man 7, it honestly feels like more of a testament to his character than his programming. Outside of that, we have plenty of examples with other characters throughout the series. We see that Roll has plans for a life outside of the lab someday where she would make a hospital to help people. In Battle and Chase, while she was originally just going to support Mega Man, she made the decision to participate herself, and release a hit song. Outside of Dr. Light’s kids, we see characters like Bass actively make the decision to betray Dr. Wily. While this could be explained away by saying that his prime objective is to prove that he’s better than Mega Man, that can’t really be the case either, as we’ve seen characters like Ballade and King switch sides and sacrifice themselves to help Mega Man. In Mega Man 9, Wily didn’t even need to reprogram the Robot Masters. He just had to point out the injustices they were facing and convince them to rebel on their own. In fact, in the Mega Man & Bass CD Data, we see that pretty much all of the Robot Masters have developed fleshed out personalities and lives outside of their work.
@dustinjones74582 жыл бұрын
X was about allowing robots to reach true maturity-to be completely independent of humanity and to make choices without our direct guidance, but still be able to choose to be a part of it. It's why he gave X 30 years of testing before he was ready-he needed that time to draw experience and gain wisdom. Rock and the robot masters were really children at heart-but they couldn't grow up, and they were reliant on humans to have a function. Protoman and Bass were rebels against their creators and humanity, but also against other robots as well-their programming rebelled so strongly against their natural inclinations of reliance on others, that they didn't trust anyone at all. Neither can be considered a complete success.
@thefollower29332 жыл бұрын
The thing with robot masters is that they can make decisions, they can have desires, wishes, feelings, all of things we can have, but they are bound to their programming, a robot master built for construction will never become a robot that cuts trees, even if he wants to, because robot masters are treated like tools, not to mention they always need to have a programmed function to indicate what they should do, otherwise, they'll be just like protoman, who is never really okay with his identity, and they are also bound to the laws of robotics, protoman included, he ran away because he didn't want to be reprogrammed, but that is pretty much rule 3(or 2, i don't remember) "a robot must preserve its own existence as long as it doesn't interfere with the first law" (which is also why the robot masters in 9 listened to wily) but robot masters are also forced to obey to their masters (unless their masters' order conflict with rule 2 or 3), if their master commands them, Dr light never commanded protoman to be reprogrammed (and if there is a line of dialogue where Dr light commands him like in MM the power fighters 2, it's probably a translation error or just a plot hole) because he wants to treat him like a person, and if he doesn't want to lose his memories, light will respect that wish, protoman doesn't have complete free will like a reploid, he's just a robot master that doesn't get orders and doesn't have a function, on the surface that might sound like a reploid, but in reality it really isn't. The difference between a robot master and a reploid is that reploids can choose who they want to be in life and decide whether to try to achieve their dream or not, (not to mention they're treated like actual people) they don't need someone to direct them, robot master simply need humans to decide for them otherwise they'd be just like protoman. Never sure what their purpose is. That is the difference.
@wowalamoiz94892 жыл бұрын
@@thefollower2933 Explain then, how both Megaman and Bass could threaten to kill Wily, and only abstain due to, in Rock's case, principles, and in Bass's case, an incentive given by Wily not to kill him?
@thefollower29332 жыл бұрын
@@wowalamoiz9489 simple, Megaman 7's ending isn't canon, that "DIE WILY" bit was only added in the English version, in the Japanese version rock still points his buster at Wily, but only to scare him off since he's pulled tricks on him in the past. Wily then reminds Megaman that robots can't harm humans and Megaman puts his buster down (and if remember correctly he even says "what... What am I doing?" But don't quote me on that) Regarding bass... Funny story, I don't remember in which game bass threatened to kill wily, can you tell me which game it was? Since if it was one of the arcade games I'll tell you right now those games have a few plot holes, like Dr light commanding protoman that he should get repaired and he refuses despite that literally being impossible, (not to mention light would never command him to be repaired, if anything he'd ask him) and if it was Megaman and Bass, again, the translation of that game sucked ass. But if it ain't in any of these games, I dunno, probably a plot hole or something else.

lecorbak Protoman was a ''dying'' robot early in his story and the prototype for Megaman. He left Dr. Lights lab for reasons and it was all rather depressing knowing that he would soon die. This song is something he would whistle from time to time hence why it sounds tragic in the beginning. It became his calling card later on when he would show up to aid Megaman or get in his way as Breakman.

I already told my sister to play this at mine too! It's sad, but it can be happy, based on perspective.

The detonation shook the walls, it was coming down the empty halls were filled with flame and everything was coming to the ground I called your name I tried to warn, but you didnt hear you were torn between the hero and your fears And I wish that I could be the one to finally show the way, and I wish that I could be the one who knew just what to say, but I know that there is nothing I could ever say or do, cause you're the one... the doctor chose you to be his son. If I was standing where you are, I think I would have done what father wants, but then I know what I'd become, he said to me, that I would be, that I would be the light when they couldnt see, that what they need is a machine that could give them hope that would keep them free, that when they fall, still he would stand, a savior built by human hands It seems so strange, so very odd a hero's father could be so very flawed
