The reason the facial animations were so good, is because the face model was blank, with the eyes and mouth layered over it, so they could just change the face texture to simulate animation. Gave the game a real anime feel and I wonder why more games don't use this technique.

One of my favorite ps1 games ever. The eerie vibes of the dungeons to the super jolly vibes of exploring the city are both extremely on point. I love the brightly colored low poly style of the game and it never gets old no matter how many years pass. I love how fun the NPCs are and the voice acting is so endearing. I'm not a fan of metroidvania style games but this one really kept me invested in exploring the world each time I got a new upgrade.

Oh man, I remember playing this around the mid to late 1990s. So probably a year or so after release and it was solid. Yeah, it's clunky today but a lot of 3D games from that era were. But this was unique because it played like a Metroid-Vania, before that term existed. I mean, look at what you do. You explore to get money, buy equipment, explore more, find something in the ruins or gain something from a boss/exploration that allows you to unlock more of the map to continue exploring. The elements are all there.

Choke points I had as a kid was the Feldynaught where I had to learn strafe shooting. (Run sideways and press the opposite turn button so you can run around and shoot.), the Marlwolf which I died a lot of times, not knowing how to damage it, and the Fokkewolf after the Gesselshaft fight since I didn't upgrade the Machine Buster to max which is the cost effective way until getting the Active Buster for late game.

20+ years since this game came out and there's not many in that entire time that had atmosphere like this game. Going into a ruin felt like really exploring a very dangerous and forbidding place left by an ancient advanced civilization. I believe people are hoping Capcom will eventually release a Megaman Legends Legacy Collection sometime soon, especially since the others worked out. With the remastered games and all. I wouldnt mind.... but i personally would LOVE a remake of both Legends 1 and 2. I love L1 but the gameplay is a bit archaic 😅 I would love a remade gameplay style: maybe something similar to a Rachet and Clank clone...? Beautiful new graphics, new voice actors, that was Megaman's voice (and the others) will be consistent. Additional features, dungeons to dig and find treasures, new town missions, little story details to fill in minor plot holes, etc etc. Then if the remakes sell well, which i believe that they will, they can finally make a Legends 3

Lovely video! Your analysis are incredibly in-depth without being overwhelming. Although I disagree a bit with the Gesellshaft fight, I can understand the point being made. On a personal note, I loved the Legends series so much as a child that when I replayed it as an adult I got that feeling that... It still holds up! Even with the cluncky controls, both games are, overall, designed around them, making it not as much of a razzle. Besides that, the level design is top-notch in both games. Speaking of the second, they managed to up-scale the game in every way, both in level and map design, combat and controls (a lock-on system closer to Zelda's being the best introduction to it). Overall, Legends 2 is my second favorite game on PS1, both due to how much I love this series and for how it's still a great game. BTW, pretty happy to see indie developers bringing this art style back, both on animations as in other games.

Even in my own playthroughs I could not achieve the devastation that this guy unleashed on Cattlox island. Something that was not conveyed well, is that you can search holes in the walls of dungeons to find bonus stuff. The flat low-res textures did not stand out enough for me to think "huh maybe I can interact with this," it just looked like... A regular ruins. Also shoutout to the audio mixing being absolute ass. What should have been a shocking revelation in the finale was ACTUALLY me just fighting with a CRT TV's volume controls.

Legends is one of my all-time favorite video game series. The PS1 was stuffed totally full with bangers, and definitely has one of the greatest libraries of any console ever developed, and even with that, Legends stands near the top, owing to its' immense charm, poise, and effortless confidence in itself as a series of products; It knew exactly what it was, and executed it with total aplomb. I initially had zero interest in the 3DS, but the day that Capcom announced Legends 3, I went and bought one specifically and expressly for it. Capcom cancelling the title shortly after was a source of intense, bitter disappointment the likes of which I hadn't felt since Grandia was passed over for a North American Saturn release. To this day, it still annoys me that it never happened. I'm losing hope too. The cast has aged out of the VA profession, sadly, with one of them being unfortunately deceased. It's a damn shame, as a huge part of Legends' presentation was its' stellar dub. It matched the spirit and delivery of its' Japanese counterpart wonderfully, a rarity in the world of localizations. An interesting aside: The composer for Legends and Legends 2, Makoto Tomozawa, also worked on Resident Evil on the PS1. This is especially evident in the creepy ambient music in several of the sub-gates and ruins that you explore throughout the games.
