FYI: The creator of Mega Man is NOT names Dr. Wright. It's Dr. Light. Dr. Wright was a misspelling of Dr. Light when the Japanese was translated into English.

Yeah, and Rockman is Mega Man in the original Japanese version, so maybe that's why they called the first boss Gutsman despite the fact that his whole theme is rocks.

The strategy for Guts Man is actually even simpler! If you're standing on the opposite side of the stage from him, the stun from the earthquakes will end with enough time for you to jump over his block attack. It's less dangerous than trying to time the jumps because if you land an the tail end of the quake and get stunned you won't have enough time to make the jump.

Here's some weird Mega Man facts: The 1-ups are considered 'spare bodies' in translation. Yes when Mega Man dies, he just gets put in a NEW body. Make of that as you will. Japan did a little thing known as "Ask Dr. Right" which answers a few questions about the Robot Masters and Dr. Wily himself. You can fond it on Kobun20's site. There's many different theories as to why Rockman's name was changed to Mega Man, as many different magazine articles say different things from up there at Capcom USA. Nintendo Power and Game Informer all had very different backstories as well on Mega Man's origin so they were never completely clear on what they wanted him to be in English releases. :P

This game is really challenging. A few months ago I was playing it and O.M.G. and I was totally owned by it. The funny thing is "I just wanted to keep playing it". It is hard but not that hard so if you don't know it give it a try without realizing you will be playing the other games in the serie. A great game and a mix of action, platforms and puzzle. Just perfect. Heed the words of this 90's geezer. See ya.

15:53 you are right. It's on all 6 of the classics. However, you have to use start on anything past 1 because select doesn't pause it past 1. Start brings up the weapon menu but it basically does the same thing as start, plus lets you switch weapons.

I love Mega Man. One of my favorite all-time game series. I have Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the Gamecube and Mega Man X Collection as well (I love me some X as well). Aside from the gameplay, the music is also one of my absolute favorite parts. Even in this first game.

Those jumping guys near the boss' door do not jump random. They jump higher when they're closer to you, if I'm not mistaken. So you want to get close and back up a bit right before he jumps and then go ahead. This game is great, and I loved the thing you did showing the story and the name of certain creatures (maybe you could do more of that? I kinda never looked up for the names other than the bosses'). Anyway. Will(y) you do MM2 after? I mean, both these games are pretty short and really good (2 better than 1, but hey) and have pretty good music. xD Megaman HYPE!

+Brian Thibaudeau his older stuff is tougher (which is mostly when he did megaman perfect runs), but his later stuff is more fluid and has more energy behind it. I will agree that he isn't for everyone though.

The Pause-Unpause glitch is only in Mega Man 1. From Mega Man 2 onward, you can't pause the game without opening up the Weapons menu and this glitch requires just pausing the game w/o opening weapons menu.

For those who reads this, Gutsman is not the recommended choice for the first stage. For newbies of the series, I reccomend either Bombman or Cutman as the first robot master to defeat.

Just about every speed run chooses Guts Man first because it is a short stage and he is easy with the buster. So yes, it is actually recommended. The other choice is Bomb Man, but it's all up to preference...

The only reasoning for this is the hard platforming at the beginning, which is only a very small area of the already small map. I've never died there anyway, so I at least think it's the easiest stage.
