You know how I was griping at the X series format hurting non-linearity? Well, the fact that basically everyone who has played this game ever will have already known exactly where I was off to after the intro stage is a pretty good strong indication for WHY I feel this series is a fair bit more linear.
Chill Penguin's stage here is not only pitifully easy, it also forces you to get your first major power-up of the game, which is actually needed to get any of the other ones, thus meaning you need to come here first. Heck, one of the bosses in the game is even designed to be threatening ONLY if you do not have this power-up, as his attacks accomplish nothing otherwise. This power-up is, of course, the dash boots, giving that substantial speed increase that I find as being rather iconic for this series.
That aside, needless to say this stage only took one take after some practice, cause really now, this stage is just sad. The boss does not fair any better with his really pitiful attacks... the next stage to go to is not much better. Well, I can at least say the stage after THAT is a bit more exciting!
